Achievement Rarity

It is pretty common for achievements to show how much people has it, and people become more involved if they can have something rare, there are many examples, the simples is Steam achievements. So, why not to have it in ESO?

From dev POV, it is new pretty simple database calculation, which can be performed every day/week, etc., so not costly. From analytics POV - you can compare rate with which achievements were gained before and after, then track average time spent in game on players who receives rare achievement and analyze if they started to play more while trying to get these achievements - so you can easily have analytical report on this change.

Who don't care - they can simply ignore it; nothing will change for them.

P.S. As far as I know, consoles have it, if it is true and you are console player, you can also vote based on your feelings on this matter :)

Yes, it makes me a bit happier if I see I got rare one (e.x. on Steam), but I will not "hunt" them

Highlighting a "rare" achievement, leads to them not being rare.

I would like achievement rarity to be added, as long as it is informational only.

Seeing that an achievement is rare can make it feel more meaningful, and it can give achievement hunters another reason to explore old content, attempt harder challenges, or finish obscure objectives. Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and other platforms already show this kind of information, so it would not feel out of place in ESO.

That said, I would not want extra rewards tied to rarity. The value should be in the information and personal motivation, not in creating another FOMO or prestige grind. Just showing a percentage beside achievements would be enough.

    Ideally it would include:

    Global completion percentage.

A filter or sort option for rare achievements.

Separate handling for unobtainable/retired achievements so they do not distort the system.

No gameplay advantage or reward attached.

For players who do not care, nothing really changes. For players who like achievement hunting, it adds a small but meaningful layer of motivation.

I'll give you an insight as a console player myself: Season 0 Update is the first in ESO history I think to not add any achievement - I was surprised there wasn't any for Night Market, but I kinda get why since it supposedly is a limited time event.

Anyway; I have enjoyed hunting them simply because they are way less than in-game achievements: to 100% in-game achievements you have to be "crazy" (no offense to the legends who did this) while if you just hunt console achievements it is not that hard...

But still they exist, on Steam you can find them in any game. If some achievement is easy but rare, yes, it will become not rare pretty fast I suppose, but it is just a part or normalization, because ESO has no rarity system on PC rn, so some rare achievement can be dull and not interesting, so they are not completed because of this and not because they are hard.

    ???

There are 1110 achievement points for the Night Market, only 950 of which are attainable in a single season since the others require getting favor with the other factions.

Achievements are only ever added with patches though, so the Night Market achieves came with U49. Season Zero starting was just turning on stuff that was added to the game in U49. Similarly, U50 is going to bring most of Season One (and the associated achievements), but that's not being turned on until July.

I like hunting achievements because it's something I enjoy doing. I don't care how rare they are or what percentage of the playerbase has them. I'd much rather ZOS put the time into something else.

Saying it wouldn't affect anyone else is wrong. I predict that there would be endless discussions here about why a particular achievement is rare (especially if it's not a trifecta or something difficult), and potentially lead to all sorts of wrong conclusions about what's popular in the game and what isn't. We have enough of that here already! ;)

OP isn't talking about in-game achievements when the comparison is made with consoles having them while PC not - consoles, both PS and Xbox have separate, dedicated special achievements: PS calls them Trophies, Xbox Achievements. OP is asking for ESO to have "Steam Achievements" or something like that. Obviously the game have achievements, just not special platform ones on PC.

Console didn't add any specific "platform achievement/trophy" with last Update, while this happened with every precedent one.
