I'd also be careful with a pure class, burning focused build. They tend to disappoint.

Well I was kind of thinking about preparing for update 50 with the Masterys coming in.
I guess it'll depend if the DK Mastery make the pure class better or if it's still going to be subclassing is the way to go.

Well I was kind of thinking about preparing for update 50 with the Masterys coming in.

With Shattered Paths it definitely is better to subclass. Two of the DK masteries require you to spend ultimate, one is for bracing and the others require a certain playstyle.
Wildfire Embers gives an additional DoT when one of your abilities end and Inexorable Descent improves your Landslide passive.
Both passives do not really lean into the "heavy application of status effects" playstyle. Although you'll probably get a big damage boost from using Pyrebrand.
Make of it what you will, but I'd still subclass.

So what like a sorc/Warden subclass use the bear as the ultimate since you won't be using your ultimate?
