Platinum Dust Refining Multiple

Quick question. I was in Rawl'jha and went to the Jewelry station and decided to refine some of my Platinum Dust. I had approximately 51,000 Dust and decided to do the refining multiple and used the 1,000 which came up. I did it and my dust count went down from 51,000 to 41,000 and stupid me....I tried it again and it went down from 41,000 to 31,000. So I checked it doing 500 and it went down the correct amount. So it deducted 10,000 and not 1,000 from my inventory.....twice and I lost 28,000 dust!!! Has anyone else had this happen? I am not the most knowledgeable ESOL person so did I do something wrong? I have never filed ticket but I may and see if they can correct it.....thanks for any responses.....Jim

It takes 10 of any raw material to refine into 1 of that refined material.

So 10 of any jewelry tier dust = 1 jewelry refined material

The refining UI shows you how many times it can refine in 1 click - so if set to 1000, that is actually 1000 automatic clicks x 10 raw = 10,000 raw dust used -> to create 1000 platinum ounces

TLDR - you lost nothing. It’s just not shown on the UI you are actually converting 1000x the 10 dust/cloth/etc needed for 1 refined material.

When you refine raw materials, it's done in units of 10 and you can never refine anything other than multiple of 10. You'll get back somewhere between 7 and 10 refined materials from that. It's kind of RNG, but you'll generally tend to get back about 80%, so 100 raw will typically give ~80 refined.

Jewelry trait mats (pulverized <whatever>) are a straight 10:1, so 10 unrefined will give you 1 trait mat.

When you're refining and it's asking how many, "1000" is actually "1000 units of 10" (10,000), and "500" would be "500 units of 10" (5,000).
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.
