Night Market has made Group Finder come alive

I have always used the group finder but it could be difficult to use it to find groups for things. Many seemed to not know how it worked or just simply weren't interested in group finder groups. And you'd basically have to shout out to your guilds and zones to get people to check it.

Night Market has changed that in a big way. Groups fill in seconds to a couple of minutes. People asking about it aren't asking for invites anyway anymore but joining in using group finder.

Most of my groups are quiet but I've also met so many nice people that were trying to go the extra mile to keep things entertaining or helpful.

One was an older lady who read to us from her book while we waited for the skirmish to come back. She had a wonderful reading voice. I didn't get a chance to ask her but I wonder if she was an educator because she was a great reader.

Another nice player gave me a Glimmering Goad recipe fragment because our group helped her get the spider puzzle achievement done. I had made the group for the spider puzzle because I just wanted to be done with the puzzles and wasn't expecting that at all!

Another dude very patiently explained the brood mother skirmish in great detail and encouraged the group even though it was kind of a disaster. When the boss despawned, he didn't get angry even though I know it must have been frustrating. He just said, "Don't worry about guys. This is the hardest fight in the districts. You'll get it done next time," and thanks to him, I was able to carry his instructions over to a different group and we got it done.

Playing in the Night Market has really given me a new found appreciation for the group finder and the community, even if not every experience was great. It feels revitalized.

Yeah, it's amazing. Found dozens of groups there and created groups at my own.

Was fun and the people were chill. :)

It may be the most successful single piece of content Zos has ever done. It seems to not only have revived the group finder but it’s also created a need for 12 player groups in pve outside of trials. Tanks and healers are not only necessary but mandatory. And seemingly anticipating the new thieves guild content, these builds have become very useful for doing small quests in the market when not in a large group.

This event is as good as the Writhing Wall was bad. I find it incredibly fun and addictive and I’m almost in disbelief of how good it is.

Ngl I was a bit... apprehensive due to wanting to get to 10k favour and get stuff done (including the trial) in multiple accounts.

When the event started I was almost resigned to this being the first event that I had to focus on a single account.

I can get together with some friends for a couple of hours maybe twice a week if lucky, definitely not every other day let alone every day.

Then the group finder kinda... lit up and has continued doing so every day.

Things look a lot more achievable now

I just joined a group that was only for sharing dailies which is nice. I also learned the wonders this morning of doing dailies on alts, like the easy kill quest one at least. And if I get multiple ones for the SKirmish that's 175 right there.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the group finder when doing Night Market content. This is great to read and also really helpful as we continue to dig into Night Market feedback.

I'm quoting you so I can piggyback on this.

I'm increasingly convinced that the players who keep comparing the Night Market to "Overland" with "higher difficulty" are misguided - the difficulty slider thing comes later in the year.

The Night Market is wonderful pre-Trial content.

    Shyer/newer players
    • can join without feeling guilty if they need to leave early or log on late
    • watch stronger players die - and realize its not just them & its normal to die doing new content.... its kind of fun running back to the fight, watching a handful of ghosts with you, racing
    • rez, rez, rez - I'm often frustrated to watch Trials in which people don't help each other back... but in Night Market, I'm often seeing folks rez each other (even people not in their own group) - lowbies can do it too!
    • can do mini-games! the spider one especially seems to interest folks to work together

The Opulent Ordeal is a great example of "work as a team if you want to advance", and no one can really idle behind, letting others do mechs. Folks teach each other.

It's a brilliant zone that lets solo-players get their feet wet & realize that group-content need not be scary. They can even run around, solo, acclimating and watching if they need to.

And unlike a Trial, it doesn't just abruptly end after the last boss dies - but rather, folks join & leave groups constantly (so folks leave when they are ready to leave - which means many just carry forward to the next).

It is superb content for showing PVE-averse players "the ropes" at a gentler pace.

I like that some people are not just grouping in general, but some are focused on specific things.
Now I can join for Argents or Skirmishes and not just a random group that has no goal (which BTW is fine if that's what the group is for)

Night Market has shown some pain points for Group Finder, too:

    - Frequent role errors when listing role-specific groups, specifically after someone leaves, completely blocking you from making role listings unless you use a lengthy workaround
    - Need to re-list from scratch every time one person leaves a full group (a prompt to re-list previous listing would help), a distraction for boss zerg leaders
    - Lack of dungeon queue for Night Market dungeons

This is compounding the issues of needing (or at least, tending to have) a big group for Argent/Brazen, then up to 3 small groups (all with relic and key) for each of the dungeons, and then a whole new group for the trial, then restart. It's hard to do multiple levels of content with a friend based on inconsistent requirements.

Having to relist after someone leaves is necessary too in case someone says just wait till you lose half etc. Really if you dont constantly update it creates a chain reaction and the whole group dies, so its required and pretty annoying if running a pug.

Small thing but one that would make leading a lot more desirable and make me less anxious when having to tank as well as maintain the 12 man.

@ZOS_Kevin Just wanted to +1 making relisting easier. As a previously die-hard solo player, I've been enjoying the casualness of grouping up in the NM, and I'd love it if ease of listing/re-listing could encourage more people to group up.

So turns out someone actually made an addon for this called GroupFinder+, you can press create on the ui and itll repost the last listing you made.

Apologies moderators if there's rules against sharing links I am not aware of, but this is pretty crucial for people leading NM groups. Will be testing this out myself tonight

Night Market also shown Group Finder is useless as players simply fake their roles. I've just started finder for skirmish requiring 2 tanks, 2 healers and 10 dd's. Ended up with 2 healers and 10 dd's.
Miracle? No, two players simply changed roles to tank, joined, and changer back to dd's.
Zenimax, why don't u make roles mean ANYTHING not only in veteran dungeons/trials? Why don't you make role a part of build, so it can't be this easy to change?

There does need to be a way to see who applied as what in the group menu so you can kick these people. I have kicked the ones that I caught doing this but group finder fills so fast it's not always possible and it causes a lot of issues. That's my one really consistently negative experience.

I'm really glad to hear you gave it a try and liked it. Some of the quests and dailies can be confusing for sure. I remember last Wednesday, running around for the first time just lost lol. There is definitely some stuff Zos can work on for next time. They seem to be standing firm on the night market and how it is overall and that's encouraging. I get you're not wanting to read a guide, what are you having trouble with? There's many experienced players here who don't mind helping at all.

I made a gilded group requiring a tank and a healer and posted it. A few seconds later it was entirely full, and the last guy who joined said "you sure you don't want a tank?" and I was confused, because I absolutely wanted a tank. So even though I'd set required roles, and no one was marked as a tank, it allowed two damage dealers to join. He was nice and figured it was just normal ZOS coding and hopped out, but when I attempted to relist the group it would not let me. I never figured out what witchcraft needed to happen in order for me to relist the group requiring a tank. Ended up having to pass leader to one of the others in the group who made it successfully. So it seems like I was bugged after making the group and someone dropping out. Was definitely frustrating, but I'm glad other players can help compensate for the bugs, even though they shouldn't have to.
