Black Gem Monstrosity in PVP

I havent seen much discussion for this overall and what discussion I did see basically said this was either trash or below average.
I am trying to understand this view point more. I put together a build using Perfected Null Arca and Black Gem Monstrosity as my main damage sets with Back bar Wretched Vitality.
When I have inspected Combat logs so far. What i'm seeing is that black gem monstrosity is not far behind the damage being dealt by Perfected Null Arca against players in PVP/no CP BG environment. And having 2 proc sets firing stuff along with having shocking soul with major breach on it and merciless resolve as part of a burst has been very effective.
So why the hate for this set? And if I should change to something else, what should I change to as far as a different monster set? I guess the main other one used these days is Balorgh but that seems pretty average unless I am on my bomber. Not sure if I want to be using that when incapacitating strike frequently? Is that what most are doing?

✭Part of the problem is the fact that the set’s damage is capped based on your opponent’s HP. But the higher the HP, the more likely your opponent is to be tanky enough to survive it.3 -
ceruulean✭✭✭✭The soul gem hit is piddly, it won't do anything against a competent player. It can't crit. Bloodspawn, Roksa increase your defense or sustain. Balorgh increases your defense too because healing scales off dmg. Also you need to use Wield Soul as a spammable.Edited by ceruulean on 27 April 2026 19:113

Burtan✭✭✭✭This set doesn't really do too much damage compared to other sets in my opinion, however i would add that it is currently bugged or having an unintended interaction.
The proc fires twice on dual wield heavy attacks.Gray Host PC EU
