Why do we need to pull our characters in from the live game?

A simple question.
Why do we need to pull characters in from the live game. Seems I spend as much time setting the stage as I do testing. Can we not test with 3600 created characters that just linger in the PTS rather than wipe them so often? We have everything we need to replicate what we were doing on the live server so dragging over the live characters just adds work.

(I have to start the two new quests all over again because i did not get them finished before the switch.)

Having our live characters does make it easier to test how new patches affect our builds & can jump right in to doing content. Some people won’t even do pts after the server swap because they don’t want to set up a template character.

Edit: not to mention, the housing community uses PTS to work on their houses.

We definitely do not. Certainly not for Housing.

(There's other dedicated threads about this (like this one, for reference), but basically PC NA Housers are nerfed on PTS for most of the time because it switches to EU copy in the 2nd week, and then stays on EU for all of the months following. So we can't get a ton of the stuff our main account has – detailed in that thread. Conversely, EU players are missing their stuff for the first 2 weeks.

And from what I've seen in these threads, it's not only Housers; players focused on other game-systems, even combat, have this issue too.)

Also PTS is also testing quests that might have responses or content based on a character having done a questline or questlines already.

Yes. My thief was doing the guild quest, but now it is wiped and I have to start over with one who has not master the thief guild. So I don't agree completely that having a live character for a couple weeks is really helping anyone test new content.

Having my NA chars on the test server is great. When they're wiped it's a drag. Setting up chars from scratch is tedious. And, as others have mentioned a live account can have a great many things that can't be obtained on the test server.
