Suggestion: One Hand and Spell skill line

I know for a fact this was suggested, very early on in the game's life in fact, and devs at the time said they'd be open to such a skill line but it never got implemented. We see NPCs using single one hand weapons, we have the High Elf Hero using a single one hand weapon and a spell, why not us?

Currently, equipping a single 1h weapon does nothing, it has no corresponding skill line, adding additional classes of equipment for the off-hand wouldn't even be necessary. Just equip a 1h weapon and get XP and you gain the skill line.

I know a challenge might be leveling the playing field with single weapon stats rather than DW or 2h, but I'd imagine passives could compensate.

Please let me be like our High Elf Hero!

I to would like this, been wanting it since i started playing and it could be a nice way of incorporating the hybrid/alternating cost of skills depending on resources, distance and such. Like you could have one spell that deals magic damage and spends magica at a range, but in melee range the character could infuse the weapon and strike, dealing both elemental and physical damage, perhaps with extra effects to compensate for having to be in melee range.

Though i would absolutely argue that some sort of new equipment would be needed, otherwise you'd be giving up a set piece slot and an enchantment which would make 1h+spell alot weaker than any other setup, it would be like back in 2016 when two handers counted for only one item in a set. The best solution i can see could be just some sort of rune/glyph that is crafted and placed in the off hand slot, it could be invisible on the player model so no new motifs needed, just something it will be needed.

One Hand and Rune could solve the set piece thingy. And it being a rune means it doesnt need extra motif styles. An unarmed skill line would go hard too. Could have that be duel runes or some sorta new ring that goes in the weapon slot. Really no new motif styles would be needed for such a thing, just have the rune represented by a glow or something in the off-hand. As it stands right now there are only staves for magic builds and no melee weapon option at all. That and unarmed skill lines have been on my eso wishlist for years.

There are so many times I try going about 1-handed to match the spellsword class my character has always been in the other 5 TES games, but losing all of the passives of a staff just destroys the fun of even pretending.
If it was a whole skill line with abilities and passives, that would be fantastic.

People have definitely been asking for this for years.

Considering how much is being changed, bringing up old suggestions isn't beating a dead horse. There are a lot of things that are getting added or altered, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to see new weapon lines considering we have had the same ones for over ten years.
