Companion's helmets

Please ZOS let our companions wear helmets or at least let us see helmets on companions spawned by other players.

Seeing 4 Bastian togheter is terribly immersion breaking for me.

Agree. This has been asked for many times. Seems a simple 'play as you want' request to me.

Hoping that they eventually reconsider this decision. The excuse that ZOS used of them being ''unique characters'' or whatever doesn't really work in a multiplayer game where you can see multiple other players with the same Companion with the exact same face, basically a clone.

Allowing Companions to show equipped Helmet Style or Hats would be way less immersion breaking and would end up making them far more ''unique'' than what they currently are.

I think the argument was that they were identifiable characters, not unique in the sense that there's only one of them. Quoting Kevin's post (edit: sorry, this was Zone Lead Tom Murphy's answer) (late-edit to include full answer):

"One of the early design considerations with companions was the balance between "identity" and "customization" for each companion. We wanted to give players as much freedom to customize their traveling companion, while at the same time keeping the identity of the companion the same. We ended up with "no hats" on companions because it hit that sweet spot - where players can make them look any way they wish, but the character and identity of the companion doesn't change because you always see their face." I enjoy seeing other players' Bastians (or Azandars or Zeriths), but I wouldn't object to them wearing helmets either.

And PLEASE fix companions so that they do NOT attack ANYTHING until we initiate combat! I am so sick of doing a daily and having to fight waves of adds because my companion decided to start a fight.

I'm the boss and I say when to fight NOT my companions.

I'd created a post about this I think just around a month ago and tagged @ZOS_Kira to take a look at it for a possible player experience QoL improvement. It's nice to see folks are still wanting it and talking about it.

I understand their points but having played the game i strongly disagree the obtained result is what was meant to be.
Seeing one more Bastian face around me doesn't contribute in supporting his identity but detract to it.
The more companions with the same face i have around me the less i consider them as individuals.

It should be an option. Companions automatically attacking is useful in certain situations. For example farming bosses for the tomes. If you position yourself under the boss the companion will automatically start the fight and save you if you are distracted when the boss spawn.

It may be interesting to see this aggressive or passive behavior included in the personality trait of each companion. We may even have companions extremly aggressive toward very specific kinds of enemies. For example Zerith-var my be extremly aggressive toward Dro m'Athra and attack them even at great distances. This would greatly add to his personality.

Yeah I can understand your viewpoint. I don't share it, but I know it's not an uncommon viewpoint. The way I see it, this is a game populated by many Vestiges, so it's a bit like a multiverse, with other iterations of the Vestige, each with their own companions. For me it's kind of fun to see what others have done with their companions, but I understand your position as well. I don't know how committed ZOS is to their previous position, they may choose to allow companion helmets to show as a QoL thing.

As someone who has supported Companions since they were launched and understood the reasons ZOS implemented the 'no helm' policy... my view has since changed. As noted from some opinions above, you can still see a companion's unique outfit that players design, you just may not see their face if a full helm was used. So saying they shouldn't have a helm because you want to see the player's design just doesn't really apply- as in, why do you need to know WHO the other player's companion is?!?

What doesn't make sense out of all of this, is for your companion to rush into battle without any type of head protection. Sure, I rarely ever wear a helm on my characters, but that doesn't mean your companion would be equally as reckless. I probably wouldn't put a helm on my companions anyway, however, I do believe it should be a player's right to make that decision about their own companion. Honestly, I'd be curious to see what type of headwear players would use with their companions.

You should be able to change the companion's look with a character appearance token, this would solve the problem. Ideally change their nickname too, they can still be Isobel but I may like to call her by her middle name which is Bernard!
