I don't remember heartwood ever being that cheap. That would be cheaper than the actual wood planks, which are much more plentiful. That said, I don't buy those mats I just use my own.
If they are made more plentiful or if materials required to craft furniture are reduced, the prices will come down, but I don't think they'll ever be cheaper than maple.
