Why do pants exist in this game when the jacket always covers it anyway?

Shame really, that someone has done a lot of work to create the pants for each style when no one is ever going to see them. Like here, the pants are completely ruined by the weird flaps from the jacket:

So why have pants at all? Alternatively, can we have the option to hide those hideous flaps from all the jackets that ZOS designers are obsessed to put them on?

Now that looks more like an kilt or short skirt over pants to me. who has the downside that the flaps clips into it. who they mostly do with skirts.
Note the back flap is hidden on khajiit and argonians as they it will clip horrible with tails.
But this indicate an hide flap function exist but it might only be for the rear flap.
However many npc has outfit options players can not use.

I know theres a big anti-flap sentiment on the forums but… as a flap enthusiast (provided they’re not clipping… which can be a problem), I wish more things had back flaps too. Just the front looks incredibly awkward. Would be nice if we ever get a tasset toggle to be able to add back flaps on styles missing them, not just turn them all off.

Because there is no solution that allows you to mix and match outfit pieces without either clipping or floating, within the current system.

That may have been a reason that you couldn't hide the chest slot, too, but that has now been reversed.

At the hip, you have

pants or skin
tassets
sheathed weapon

all at fixed distances from the centerline.

Once an armor with tassets had been created, that space was required. The only options were all tassets, or no tassets, and we know which side of the coin we got. With a few exceptions, which might have been mistakes at the time.

We know from shoulders that the engine can't dynamically close gaps, or make more room. And the same clipping issues for the back got the opposite coin-toss for no capes, which would contest for space with back weapons.

I am hopeful that the 'hide anything' decision will mean that the requirement for tassets on all chests has gone, too.

Thankfully not every style has Tassets or Loincloths.

and zos has acknowledged the request during the update 49 January 12 livestream, so hopefully they are working on hide options.

On some styles I like the flap tassets, and it bothers me on those if there's not one at the back (Unless I'm on my argonians because then there's a big tail there). Like House Hexos, which is the updated imperial, removed the back flaps, which makes the style look sooo weird, especially the heavy one.

But on many styles I don't want the flaps, because they mess up combinations, or are utterly illogical (Looking at you Dead Keeper light)

I do wish we had more styles without flaps. But there are styles without them and some nice pants to go with them. And that's a good thing.

What has jacket flaps to do with trousers? They aren't that cowering, and some people want their legs protected or not bare.

Like in the image there, if he didn't wear the Order of the Hour legs he would look ridiculous, and some leg styles would look better without flaps, while some look nice with flaps.

The title of this thread is odd, but as for flaps, people have requested an option to hide flaps or not for ages. Options are nice.

I'd much rather get rid of the battle rod ... certain outfits, such as the dune costume, and others with a large crotch cape, have an issue when your weapon is drawn. It flaps back and forth, to the point that you see it flapping over on each side as you run..... meaning you have a large stiff item sticking out from the front of your character's groin.....

The chest with these shoulders looks most like lorica segmentata so I had to choose those. And the legs are the ones I found (at least what I have collected) that looks most like pteruges. I wouldn't mind if the pteruges would be attached to the lorica segmentata as it would work all the same. But of course those flaps have to be the same segmentata style to ruin the outfit completely.

And yeah, the title might have been born out of frustration that everything must have those annoying flaps everywhere.

I kinda wish they had put the flaps as part of the belt instead. That way the pro flap, and anti flap crowds could choose much more easily if they wanted that on their characters or not. Just hide the belt! Much less noticeable then hiding the whole shirt...

Some motifs are so close, but so far. Found a top that was free of tassets but still had a front flap, but not a back. So that's something.
