Monsters on Housing????? hmmmmmm

What if ESO’s Housing system went a bit further with a different kind of idea: monster that actually do something on housing?

The idea is simple: those achievement trophies we unlock, which right now mostly just give some dyes, could have an extra function: When you earn a monster trophy, it would unlock the option to buy that monster and place it in your house.

And I don’t mean static NPCs or target dummies, I mean actual enemies that fight back.

This would open up a lot of possibilities. You could build combat arenas, or even more elaborate RP scenarios like invasions, custom dungeons, things like that. It would make housing feel way more “alive,” instead of just being a pretty space.

I could imagine an issue where they tweak one thing that affects the abilities of the monster in the trial / dungeon and it also affects the version placed in a player's home. And what if that change created an attack that could not be dodged or blocked while also being a one hit kill for all but the hardiest of players. Depending on where players might place their house version, they could find themselves unable to visit their own homes until such issue is resolved.

I think it best to steer clear of that type of situation to be honest.

    like Target Dummies?

    edited to add:
they sound like advanced target dummies.
If they could move around too they would be either Special Collectibles or need a new category which would likely mean a pretty low limit of 5 or 10 per house.

It does sound like it could be fun

Like monsters that attack anyone that visits the house? That sounds like something that could be abused. Like a house on the Home Tours that has monsters that kill most players that visit.

Yeah, this is what I would be worried about, someone stacking several monsters where people port in, just so that the people would be killed nearly instantly.

I wouldn't want them to attack people, but I would like them to add another category of "creatures" to houses. Not target dummies, but also not mounts. More like House Guests, but creatures. There are so many creatures in Tamriel, and we should be able to add more then just whatever mount we have, or the giant target dummy monsters they released.

Long before Home Tours I had suggested how wonderful it would be if we could have enemy mobs in our houses. We could set up our own mini dungeons to play or have friends play. We could set them to appear 100% of the time someone enters, or 10% of the time, etc. With our players becoming notable throughout Tamriel, it wouldn’t be strange to be attacked in our own homes by enemies that we’ve crossed in the past occasionally, for example. City of Heroes had a dungeon creator, I think it was called Architect, that was so neat like that.

Regarding someone abusing it by putting a super hard monster at the entrance just to annoy people, it could be that if a mob is placed anywhere in your home there is an automatic warning on the listing that this house contains enemy mobs so enter at your own risk.

Something like just the ability to put passive monsters in the house to wander would be good.

I think that it could also work if the monsters could be set to passive, or aggressive (so people could make like zoos of some of the monsters) and perhaps instead of having them automatically be aggressive, have it related to an action, like drawing your weapon or attacking, like the neutral monsters do after you do some quests.

That way, no automatic attacking of people who just come into the house, but they could still be used to create dungeons and other things.

Honestly, I'd rather the monster trophies provide the ability to buy a furnishing version of the monster trophy; like, the chattering skull as a skull furnishing that you can interact with, turning on a ''chattering'' animation, and so on.

But I'd be happy with any attention to these items.

That could be quite funny, like if someone put up a home called 'Fluffy ja'khajiit nursery' and upon entry you'd immediately get murdered by 10 mantikoras. But obviously there'd need to be an option to respawn outside first, so you aren't stuck in an endless death cycle.

I'd just like static "stuffed" models to add. More than just their mounted heads. Maybe they could be linked to the "kill x amount of y" achievements that vet dungeons have.

I wouldn't like them attacking either, but it would be pretty cool indeed to have them as house guests. Lore-wise it wouldn't make a lot of sense, but they could be ink copies, like the ones in the Infinite Archive, so their presence in the house could be explained that way.
