Breton Furnishings Update

While playing on the PTS, I noticed that you updated the textures and models for Breton furniture in Glenumbra - and they look great!

However, I noticed that the player-owned versions of these items still use the old, low-resolution models. Could you explain why these weren't updated at the same time? I think players would really appreciate being able to use these higher-quality models in their own homes as well.

Agree, I love the new ones and would like to see them updated!
I would think there might be some hesitance about replacing furnishing models because players may be using them creatively in ways that rely on the old textures. Some even use the old blurry textures to their advantage in creative cobbles.

However, I think that use-case is probably a tiny minority? And in this case, the texture update is so subtle and the color stays the same, IMO it'd be safe to update them.

Also, I saw some great wooden barrels and stuff around towns. I hope we'll get those as new items!

i like some old furnishings more than new versions.

Awesome that ZOS replaced the old assets in zones, but i do not want my furnishings changed.
    - different colours for some of them.
    - the old textures work perfectly fine if you want your house to appear old and worn.
    - i like the increased details, but not always.
    - more choice is better.

To be honest, the color differences are so subtle that I didn’t even realize the furniture had been changed until I looked at it up close.
While I generally agree that more choice is better, the difference here is so minimal that creating separate recipes for both versions would feel redundant. Updating the existing player furnishings would be the most straightforward way to make these assets available to us. It would allow us to furnish entire houses in a consistent, high-quality Breton style, combining new Breton items with the updated old ones.

Without the updated versions of the old Breton furnishings the new ones they did add are an incomplete set, so it seems odd to not update them. Hopefully they do.

They are subtle to you ,
but the differences are there and i made my comment to make it clear that i want old and new Breton furniture together.
As far as i know ZOS did not remove any old Breton furnishings that got new versions so i am confused by this post.

And update 50 does not have new versions for all old Breton furnishings so we will have a mismatch regardless.
Nor did they update the old Breton houses which causes more mismatch.

I think there is a misunderstanding. I never said ZOS removed anything. My point is that while they added some brand-new Breton furnishings in U50, they haven't updated the models of the existing ones, which creates a visual inconsistency. You can try to combine them in one house, but if you look closely, it will be clear that some of them are from 2026, while others are over a decade older. The easiest way to fix that would be to update the existing furnishings with the new models seen in Glenumbra.

I understand you like having the old textures as an option, but having two nearly identical sets of items seems like unnecessary clutter in the crafting menu. I won't push it too hard, though; my main priority is to gain access to the updated versions at all, in any way possible.

100% agree. It's a relatively small texture update but it dramatically improves the furnishings. As it stands, I wouldn't want to use any of the base game breton furnishings in a housing build but I would definitely use them (alongside the new ones) if the textures were updated.

I expected there would be some resistance from players who either prefer the original textures, or would simply prefer to have access to both the original textures as well as the new ones. I just think it would be a huge shame if this holds us back from being able to access these updated furnishings in our builds.

I agree, especially thinking about this extending in the future to more of the base game furnishing styles, like the khajiit ones in particular, which textures are super blurry sometimes--max graphics and all.

Something I noticed comparing the new and old versions, is that the ''issue'' of the nearly blackening out of the backs of some of the breton furnishings--especially the bookshelves--is essentially fixed in the new versions.

The unnaturally super dark back has always bothered me. It's so stick-out. I never liked using this piece, that I otherwise would love to use in some builds, because of it.

I will say though, substantially noticeable changes to certain pieces like the Breton Single Bed's change to the bedsheets, is an inappropriate level of update. That should be a new item.

Agree; I don't really mind how it's done personally, but hope we can use these eventually, in a way that's fair to most.

And agree, the model changed drastically on certain things like the bed and the short candle; I'd certainly prefer for these (at least) to be a different item altogether:

On that note, there have been new candles in the environment for a few chapters now – I really wish we could have them for Housing! And this gorgeous book:

    kf9ws009wxvm.png

Also, this large bookcase is an old asset; I've asked for it before. It would be a really useful piece to have especially if the back of it could be improved for the furnishing version (ATM the back is rather low-res, but if it were improved a bit, this would have a dual-use as structural piece – walls, floors, etc.):

Lastly, just admiring that the padding on the new chairs actually looks like padding, and this version of our favorite perpetually-bugged "Mauve" drapes, that has the "tails":

I agree that the visual difference for the bed is significant enough that it should be a separate item (maybe "Breton Bed, Rumpled"?). The short candle also looks quite different.

Moving slightly away from the Breton set itself, I noticed that the food items in Glenumbra have also received a visual refresh:

PLEASE, PLEASE let us use these in our homes. I'd argue this is even more important than the Breton furnishings. A large portion of the base game furnishings in the "Hearth" category is practically unusable for me right now, as they look like they belong to a completely different era (not even 2014, more like 2006).

I also want to mention the Provisioning Station. The meat on it absolutely needs this update, though I'm not sure why the metal spit was replaced with a wooden stick in the new version.

YES! Those Hearth items are so much better. All of the "common" things like food, candles, barrels, etc., I really wish we could get updated in Housing.

Thanks for pointing these out. This would be a game changer for kitchens/stockrooms in housing builds. I've always been disappointed by how these baskets and containers of food look like flat green slime and have never used them as a result. The new models look great!

Personally, I am hoping these changes get pushed to player furnishings. I have several homes that are decorated top to bottom with Breton and Hearth items, and the amount of time and energy I'm about to spend farming to get these textures and meshes updated to the new ones is so daunting. And I will, because I mean, these look to be a massive improvement. The cabbage and pot pies? If the textures were popular and people thought they looked good as they were, then I don't think they would've changed them in the first place. Having the same candle set in a low res and high res version because of a handful of players seems inefficient and catering to the minority, at least to me.

Very amped to see the changes coming. Art department should be proud.

FWIW to the Devs – A housing friend on Discord, ReeceLavellan, suggested keeping the old items while publishing the new Breton (and other) furnishings with "Refined" on the end, e.g. Breton Bed, Refined – etc.

Admittedly I agree some of them are so similar that it would feel redundant to have 2 options, BUT I think this is a good idea / compromise.
