Over the years, we've gotten new classes, but never a new weapon. There are some unique challenges associated with new weapons, therefore these options all meet the following criteria:
1) No new motifs. Avoids the massive art burden attached to common weapon requests like Quarterstaff, Crossbow, Spear, or Flail.
2) Lore-appropriate. Draws from in-game precedent and fills gaps relative to the broader Elder Scrolls universe.
3) Fits a legitimate gameplay role.
4) Expands available "power fantasy" options.
Which new weapon do you want?
Alteration Staff & Shield - Mages committed to defensive support may wield an Alteration Staff with Shield, offering superior magical and physical protection.
Illusion Staff - The Illusion Staff offers a variety of powers to those seeking extra Stealth, CC, debuffs, and group buffing utility.
Conjuration Staff - Pets, pets, pets! Dominate the battlefield, empower your pets, and banish Daedra with the Conjuration Staff.
Unarmed Combat - Who needs a weapon, when you've got these guns?
(The missing set item problem may be solved by a Handsfree passive: "While Unarmed, equipped handwear counts as 2/3 set items.")
One-Handed & Focus - Spellswords arrive wielding a new magical Jewelry weapon, the Focus, worn in the off-hand Shield slot. Some 1H+Focus abilities offer class-flavored bonus effects (similar to Destruction Staff and melee weapon variants). Heavy attacks restore Mag and complement the mid-range DPS niche.
