Heard beam sucks in PvP, is it true? Has anyone had success?

You can still make a status effect proc build building max health, it’s what people were using before Subclassing.

It works great still even now, just feels like a generic playstyle, which is why I avoid it.

I've seen EmanTheChosen using Beam on his stream and clapping folk but that's probably more an example of a skilled player doing skilled player things than it is about Beam actually being good, heh.

Solo its awful in most chases but have had some lucky moments with it, in a group it can decent in the right situation like in tight spaces, or when someone else pulls enemy palyers together into a stun. But its niche and once they see your beam you become a target.

Runeblades+Tentacular Dread is a pretty decent combo in pvp, I used it for a while on my battlegrounds character. Beam does have a morph that keeps it from being interrupted but it's less useful unless your team has a strong frontline to keep people from getting to you which can be hit or miss.

If you're in a group it might be better, but usually when I see an arcanist beam, I just go behind them and attack from there. The beam makes it really obvious where they're facing, and I think that would make you really vulnerable when solo. But there are situations where I think it could work, so I think it's worth trying it and see how it suits you.

i think the best use of beam in pvp is actually to burn the targets stam down if they are blocking

beam being direct dmg is blockable, and it hits every half a second, block has a cooldown of 0.25 sec, so it can help burn stam of someone who is blocking

when ive used my arc in pvp, i usually try to use the beam strategically such as on blocking people, or in choke points like the narrow areas on the alessia bridge, etc

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

It doesn't always work but beam + kvatch gladiator in chokepoints can be pretty funny.

Absolute deadly in combination with the stun.

Never thought that a build with just one 5 piece set could be so much fun until then.

    I miss the Sanctum suicides.

I wonder how good a Thorns build with
    Subclassing would be.

You could use Bone Shield, Blazing Shield, Spiked Armor & Sanctum of the Abyssal Sea build with Harbinger & Radiant Bastion.

You're not going to make a brawler but it does work well as mid row group assist class.

It does benefit from subclassing into Templar and equip dawn's wrath

But honestly magica builds are unfairly taxed for going into DPS compared to stamina builds

For group play it makes for one of the strongest support specs in the game (shielder with Reawakened Hierophant set from IA). Outside of that role you're kinda forced into a proc-/status effect heavy build or bashbuilds, which aren't terrible, but other classes does a better job there.

It's good for AoE control, but in 1v1 fights my biggest struggle has been server positioning desync. Where I play from I usually have 160ish ping, but in PvP it will regularly hold steady around 280. I'll have the beam right on top of someone, and it will do 0 dps. However, if person is pulling left, and I aim several meters in front of them, then it will register the hit. So, if you have a good connection to the game it might be worth trying out, and testing for yourself.

Good for support, bad for damage.

Can it 1vX? Yes. You can kill bads with anything.

Can it beat top tier sweatlords? No. You're gimping yourself too much.
