Lack of communication regarding Eidetic Memory Books bugs

Regarding the numerous bugs affecting the Eidetic Memory Books, there are two mega-threads open in the Forum. Players have been writing there for years, but I NEVER see any response, any interest from GMs.
The modules continue to come, the books continue to be created, and consequently the related bugs also increase. No one ever listens to what players, interested in this aspect of the game, have been saying for years.
Recently, a paradoxical bug was created, which personally offends me greatly. In fact, a certain book (Worm Cult Correspondence) was made available ONLY to players who had NOT purchased the latest Season Pass, and only for a limited period of time, namely during the Writhing Wall event.
We've asked @ZOS_Kevin countless times for help with all these bugs, but to no avail.
Every time an update, maintenance, or PTS comes out... we're all there checking to see if any books have been fixed. Every now and then, yes, randomly, something gets fixed.
But there's never any communication, never any consideration, never any demonstration of interest.
I even asked myself a question... in fact, it's obvious that these Eidetic Memory Books attract little interest from the gaming community, so they come last in the bug pyramid.
I wonder: why do they continue to create more books (so many) and more bugs, if they're not appreciated and never fixed? One of two things: either they're fixed and they keep producing them, or let's stop there!!!

This has been a major frustration for me for years. I originally joined the forums to contribute to the eidetic threads way back when. It's been an ongoing frustration point for me and several friends of mine who do not have forum accounts for years. Eidetic Memory is the only system that has been in game since base game but never been fully bug free and functional. It's so easy to miss books even if you are relatively observant and some of them have a history of being buggy. While issues were fixed in the past, it's been years since an official statement (I do not recall where but I can probably try to dig it up) where we got a promise to not only fix bugged books but make it so future books would not be quest locked....given how so many new books since then have been bugged and quest locked you know how that went.

What's worse, is on the pts a third thread was made to ensure that the limited Night Market books were easy for people to find on launch. We found all but 3, and I am 99% sure one of the books is bugged. We. did. not. get. one. word. of. response.

While the communication this pts was way better, it also felt very selective and like some longstanding issues just aren't cared about. I hate that I've been bugged out of 100% on lorebooks on my main for years and since the Writhing Wall nobody can be at 100% due to the one book that is locked behind the quest you get for not owning the pass. I've talked more recently a lot about how the lead system is similarly near impossible for the people who are passionate about lore to 100% but considering both systems that emphasize collecting bits of lore are like this is infuriating for such a lore heavy game and franchise. They may not be vocal and many of them might not even visit the forum or have accounts but lore fans deserve to have the systems in game that support them feel fun and rewarding and completable too.

For my own personal lorebooks, I'm currently missing five:
    • Gleaner's Claim-commonly missable, quest locked location and no post location
    • Letter from Aradros-missing from game for years??????
    • Items Needed for Curative-quest in public dungeon, put in inventory and easy to miss but I'm pretty sure I read it on launch and it just didn't register in my eidetic and I didn't find out til post-quest which...you guessed it! no location after
    • Letter from the Stirk Fellowship-similar to Aradros's, not in game at all? hello?
    • Worm Cult Correspondence-only obtainable during Writhing Wall event if you don't own the pass, as if this event needed anymore frustration
So two books never in game, two quest books easy to miss, and one that I had no hope of getting at all due to how it was put in game....

Seriously, it might be something small and some people might not care but I think given how persistent several of us have been over the years and given the continuation of the two threads and our attempt in the pts this cycle to bring attention to lorebook bugs and issues and pain points, it's at least worth a response....We've curated the list of books that are bugged and tried to be as detailed as possible about how they're bugged, where they are, etc so they're easy to fix and respond to. I don't think it's too much to ask for something here....

I hope they will adress Eidetic Memory issues in some of the next player expierience improvements.
Many good stuff (long requested) coming with u49 so lets hope this one also gets fixed.

I agree. Lorebooks need fixing. Also, I'd love the eidetic memory to be account wide.

Personally, since June 2025, I have stopped looking for books or searching for locations that are still bugged. It's just ridiculous that completely unavailable books are not fixed or removed from the list to avoid further frustrating players who have been seeing the book unfixed for two years or more. Letter from Aradros, Worm Cult Correspondence, or Letter from the Stirk Fellowship. And even ‘probably’ Chapter Summerset is still not fixed.

I decided that there is simply NO POINT in struggling with something that is not being fixed, at least for the next major update, and instead there are ‘new’ bugged books.

Agreed that lorebooks need some more care, especially with all the player feedback regarding the bugged lorebooks present. I'm almost full, but didn't even bother looking for the solstice lorebooks for this reason.
    • Add to environment if lorebook doesn't exist
    • If quest-bound, during quest location
    • If quest-bound, after quest location

Checks really shouldn't take much effort to patch

    Hi
I'm looking for those 3 scrolls : the scroll of Vaia, Avalian and Usunok to complete my Eidetic memory in Wrothgar. Does anyone know where the after-quest location is?
The game won't let me re-enter the Chambers of Loyalty (i already completed the main story...)
    Ty for your answers.

Hey all! We are actively looking at the places where these issues have been reported, and are hitting the fixes as time allows. You'll see the first round in our U50 PTS patch notes.
We are also considering a systemic solve to make it easier for players to access these post-quest, but that tool hasn't been built yet. I would strongly, strongly recommend that when you encounter these issues in-game that you use /bug. This gives us better info on how to track them down/resolve.

First off, thank you for this reply and the work you've done already for this. I greatly appreciate it. I have a thing to point out and a followup question if that's alright.

For the question, will we see more fixes in u50's later weeks or will future fixes be in u51? While a lot of books got fixed for a lot of people, none of my missing books were in this first round unfortunately.

For the heads up for you and your team: there are a few books that have never had a proper sourcing at all. Letter from Aradros and Letter from the Stirk Fellowship have never been found by any of us in game despite years of looking for the former and people looking for the latter since Solstice dropped. Worm Cult Correspondence similarly was only available for people who did not buy the Season of the Worm Cult Pass during their version of the Writhing Wall side quest and anyone who owned the pass had no chance of obtaining it. These three books have been an annoying edge case because they have all been bugged since their release into the game with little to no hope of collecting them.

Thanks again to you and your team for this. We've waited a very long time for this and it makes me very hopeful I can see my 100% lorebook complete for the first time in years. <3

And I mean this in the most sincere way possible THANK YOU …

An actual response regarding lore books possibly one of the most important parts of this whole mmo and we FINALLY GOT A REPLY.

You are now my favourite dev @zos_kira.

We have been asking for such a long time with literally no response.

Wouldn’t the whole thing just be easier to make the EM account wide ? And just leave shalidors books per toon for mages guild?

P.S please fix snapdragons burnt notes the books been under the floor for like 2 years at this point… no way to get it post quest ….

    thank you and good day.

Thank you @ZOS_Kira from the bottom of my heart!
This is really a very good new!
I took a look at what's being fixed in the U50, and my husband is very grateful, because many of his buggy books will be fixed.
Mine will have to wait a little longer, but I'm confident they'll be fixed sooner or later.
The light has finally appeared at the end of the tunnel!
I'll keep your heartfelt plea regarding the bug report of buggy books in mind.
In the meantime, I can confirm that:
    - Letter from Aradros (West Weald Writings)
    - Letter from the Stirk Fellowship (Solstice Summations)
They have never been found in the game, anywhere in Tamriel.

    - Worm Cult Correspondence (Solstice Summations)
It was only discovered by those who hadn't purchased the Season Pass, during the Battle for the Writhing Wall event. Those who had purchased the Season Pass didn't have access to the quest where they could read the book. This is a bug that insults those who purchase from the Crown Store! It's urgent to fix it, because it discourages future purchases.

Thanks again... keep up the good work!

I have tried using the /bug in the past. The bugs I have found never fit the drop down categories. There needs to be a "other" and some way to attached a video showing the bug.

Interesting. I've never even tried to work on my Eidetic Memory completion, because I knew I had quested too long on my main character and missed a bunch before I even knew Eidetic Memory was a thing, and I wasn't willing to redo those quests on a different character.

But if they really do get all of the bugs fixed, I'd totally go back with my main and pick those up.

Better yet to make it Account Wide.

On a different topic, we have considered making Eidetic Memory account-wide. It's a more challenging space than it sounds, as Eidetic Memory can sometimes be used for quest checks to make sure that you get served the right stuff at the right time, and a change could cause a number of bugs and edge cases in existing quests. This doesn't mean we may not do it in the future, but it's something that we'd have to approach VERY cautiously.

    Many thanks @ZOS_Kira

I'm glad our efforts haven't gone unnoticed. I'll update my post to reflect yours. :D

Can I just ask you to check:

    Hew's Bane Bookshelf:
    • Arrest Writ - Has post-quest location but reading does not register (Thieves Den)

It's the only one on my list that isn't on yours.

If it would be more challenging making EM account-wide than just giving missing books a post quest location (or establish a central place to acquire them, maybe a kind of "magic librarian"; or add them in bookshelves from accordingly zones for example; whatever), personally i would set no great store by doing so. Because it also would take some fun out of it to collect the books with other chars too.
For me the major problem was not to know, if or when i could finish the collection on my main. Thank you from my heart for let us know. <3

Oh, and of course i don't know how many other players do share my point of view, just wanted to say that. I'm open to whichever solution ZOS can give us, the least challenging would be ok, i think.

Extremely happy that this is being investigated. Thank you @ZOS_Kira.

On the topic of potentially making the Eidetic Memory account wide, could this be done by having a housing "bookshelf" that links to what you have collected on the eidetic memory? That way the bookshelf could store the collected lorebooks separately from the quest stages when that specific character looks at the bookshelf.

When looking at the bookshelf in someone else's house, you would only see what you have collected, not the house owner so it shows your account progress only and it would still remain optional for those people who don't want to make theor books "account wide" by simply not putting the bookshelf in their house or reading one in someone else's.

Another idea, when Eastern Skyrim is released, there could be something in the Arcanaeum in the College of Winterhold, like with the Orc librarian Urag gro-Shub in the College of Winterhold in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but this would obviously need a different person to be in the 2nd Era rather than the 4th.
