Christmas Miracle

Dear ZOS, for my Christmas miracle this year I wish for my entire trial group to be able to play the game without latency spikes and desyncs (significantly worsened in December 2025).

On a personal level, I've tried the following in various combinations but I'm sure I've missed some obvious ones:
  • play on an ethernet connection
  • play on a wifi connection
  • play on a wifi connection to my mobile
  • play on my mobile
  • restart the router before ESO session
  • restart the pc before ESO session
  • play with the lights off (so the lightbulb radiation doesn't affect my tenuous connection to ESO servers)
  • play with a VPN set as close as possible to ESO server
  • play with a VPN to a node with supposedly the optimal routing between me and ESO servers
  • play with a VPN to the UK because one friend from there has been less affected so far
  • play with the heat set to 15 deg C (keep devices cool)
  • play without a sweater at the above temperature to avoid static buildup
  • play with the launcher closed
  • play with the launcher open
  • make positive post on X the everything app with the #ESOFam
  • play with Steam closed
  • play with Steam open
  • run Steam as administrator
  • play with Discord closed
  • play with Discord open
  • play with overlays disabled
  • play with all overlays enabled including the ones I never used
  • play on XBOX Game Mode For PC
  • disconnect all other devices from my router before eso session
  • play with the heat set to 25 deg C (don't make devices too cool that condensation forms and affects strong, sturdy connection to ESO servers)
  • two eggs for breakfast
  • play with the blinds closed (same as lightbulb but from sun)
  • play with the blinds open
  • test overall internet stability with a quick game of Overwatch 2 - Season 20 Out Now! beforehand
  • make sure encounterlog isn't running
  • make sure encounterlog IS running
  • make sure encounterlog is running and upload live logs
  • shave from left to right that morning
  • play with addons
  • play without addons
  • play with addons, but without the ones that involve group/data sharing
  • make sure to ping the IP recommended on the help page before ESO session
  • open ports listed on help page
  • don't open ports listed on help page
  • purchase crowns
  • disable firewall completely
  • enable firewall with access granted to ESO
  • run ESO as administrator
  • purchase something from crown store with earlier purchased crowns
  • play with many browser tabs of help pages open
  • play with the minimal required number of windows processes for the game to be launched

    Maybe try refunding your crowns?
    That might work.

There is a rumour that Vengeance being active significantly affects PVE Trials groups........ I believe the test has now ended, interested to hear if your groups are now better?
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

Was going to suggest resetting your router but it seems like you've done an exhaustive troubleshoot of that already. Hmmmm, did you try unplugging other household appliances BEFORE launching ESO and keeping them unplugged for the duration of your play session? Could be the power supply being strained during high performance instances like trials or Cyrodiil.

It's what I had hoped, but no the end of Vengeance has not improved the situation.

Thank you I will try that for next time.

I had attempted this before, but realized I forgot to unplug my fridge so I didn't include it in the list.

What's your rig? How far are you from the server? And how fast is your connection?
It all matters but sadly there's a few factors we players can't conrtol.

Make sure everyone running the trial is using a well spec’ed gaming PC with fast cpu, gpu, and internet.

One person in the group with a potato pc can bring down the whole group.

You might need the head piece, and staff of ra. :).

But in all seriousness performance has been on a steady decline for over a year now. I honestly don’t know if there is a fix, but considering performance issues have been affecting people all over for so long it’s likely not an issue at your end.

I make sure to wear the same socks I was wearing the night I cleared my first trifecta. Don't wash them. If this is not an option, leave ESO offerings of whisky and tobacco at night before bed, say the sith code and dab twice.

Most reasons for desyncs are not caused by something that you can influence. In my experience it mostly is the infrastructure of your provider in combination with the old code of ESO.
Lag however, is because you have too much programms and devices running, that are not essential. Turning everything else off usually helps.
Note that CPU and GPU performance can always be drastically increased by slightly lowering your settings.
On PC, ESO doesn't look much better in 4k and with Ultra settings, than with high settings on a 1080p monitor.

The important principle is parsimony. The least resource consuming state of any kind of system is always the most stable. So, if one wants performance, one is much more successful extracting it from a stable system than a strained one.

Anyway. Why does a fridge need internet access? Does it download your lunch? Or connect you to a "cool" website? 😅
