How long will this class refresh even take?

Because it sounds like it wont even be done next year / end 26? So another "transition" year after the transition year within the transition decade before we then maybe have a finished game by the time elder scrolls 6 comes out?
Bethesda really does not seem to be kidding when they say they plan their games with 10 year cycles in mind...

This is not what I had in mind when they said they wanted ESO to be a 30 year game.

Hopefully as long as it needs to, to avoid it being a repeat of the introduction of subclassing.

They should honestly just roll back subclassing. Such a waste of time and ressources.

They're not going to do that though, so hopefully the class overhaul brings things back into some semblance of balance.

How long did they take to finish hybridisation? Oh wait....
I think 6 months per class so probably 3 years in total.... and then it will get nerfed next patch cycle.

Given they do one class at a time and have to also work on new content, fixing serious bugs, events and so forth, looks like six plus years to me. And priorities will change with a long, drawn out process so the refresh will get abandoned, probably after the 2nd class gets done, possibly after just the DK.

Sure hope not considering that german leak was 90% the same, but we shall see.

The hope would be zos to consider performance in the future and reduce the calc bloat on the game. Perhaps the actual skills can feel more impactful instead of giving several passives tied to slotting the skills.

Other mmos can do this in one year while working on current content updates but zos can't even fix bugs while working on such small content patches like u48 so I don't feel any good about classes overhaul.

The announcement did stress the Long Term Plan multiple times. My guess is that the best we'll see is 2 classes per year, so just over 3 years total (if it's true that DK already broke ground some months back).

I'm sceptically hopeful for this class refresh, I just hope it doesn't take too long to get around to Necromancer. The timeline puts them almost dead last.

Have they said what would be next after DK? Based on the current sub-classing meta, I'm thinking either NB or Arcanist. But that might also ruffle more than a few feathers, so maybe they'd want to bring up some of the more ignored classes first. Maybe Sorc or Necro?

Yes, in the article, and they confirmed this was the order on the stream

The current order is subject to change based on ongoing needs:

    Dragonknight
    Warden
    Sorcerer
    Templar
    Nightblade
    Necromancer
    Arcanist

    Interesting - thanks @PeacefulAnarchy

I have yet to finish levelling up my DK (she's next in line) and I recently started an Orc DK. Be interesting to see what changes they make.

Im a 100% not waiting 2plus years for a class refresh the game has been out for 11 years and you mean to tell me I have to wait another 2plus years for my class to be able to complete with a broken system no one asked for no thanks im good

I really don’t know how long this will take. As they’ve said on the streams, not even the developers know the timeline. I asked about it, and many viewers asked the same thing. They simply don’t know, or don’t want to tell us.

The most we’ve heard is: "We’ve been working on DK for the last five months, and it’s still not complete."

So… yeah. It looks like we’ll be waiting years for proper class balance, especially since it seems they have no intention of removing or even disabling this subclass nonsense.
Elder Scrolls Online? A delightful blend of tragedy and comedy. Hilarious! Terrifying!
As Sheogorath, say: "If it makes you laugh and cry at the same time… PERFECT! Do it again!"

Releasing one class at the time is the stupidest mistake they can do right now.
That will create even more balance issues because overhauled classes should be balanced considering other reworked classes and not their current state.

I like the *idea*, but it sounds like the way its being done will leave combat in a state of flux for way too long of a time. Crazy see-saw combat changes every couple of patches can be exhausting and disruptive and have previously turned a lot of people off of the game and they would do well to remember that. And of course there is a history of not really following through on long-term projects and features.

One of three things will happen:

    1. The changes will take too long and ESO will reach EoS before it is done.
    2. The changes will become more and more half-baked as time goes on, being virtually nonexistant by the time they get to Necromancer.
    3. They'll get distracted after DK or Warden and never get back to it, citing that they need to see the current changes in action, or that the upcoming changes "need time to bake."

Hope this explains everything for you guys.

People should stop suggesting a roll back of Subclassing, it’s honestly a waste of time and ressources.

Imagine the actually wasted time and resources it would be if all of the development that went into Subclassing went out the window?

Good thing Brian already addressed it on stream as a “never going to happen” suggestion. 😁

I assume they have some sort of stopgap measure, ZOS explicitly stated that ''subclassing is objectively stronger than “pure” classing by a large margin'', so I guess they might add some kind of ''general pureclass buff'' to act as a band aid until the reworks are fully complete.

Something basic like a % damage done/damage taken/healing done modifier could be introduced via some sort of pureclass version of a Battle Spirit buff.

If there's one thing U46 taught me, it's that once the public announcement is up, we're locked in, and we should be thinking about how we can maybe sand some of the rough edges off.

There's a subset of subclassers that are vocally opposed to any and all proposals of this sort. They want to be vastly stronger than pure classes. It's going to be a major headache for ZOS with this rework/refresh/whatever.

No, there is a difference between wanting to be stronger, and not wanting the roles reversed.

The last thing this game needs, is a universal buff applied to people who do not subclass, just for them to catch up to 1% builds, leaving the other 99% of them in the dust.

Reworking the class skill lines is the solution here, and from the German preview we got, ZOS are on point with these upcoming changes.
