Nightblade assasination impale

Manofmisery
Impale is not critting either this should be mentioned in the tooltip or this is yet another bug in the nightblade skill line.

Well, it has been well documented that many NB skills are bugged, but maybe a bit more in depth description of what is happening in your case or possibly even evidence supporting your claim will help this thread.

I have 9% spell crit and 0% weapon crit. I've tested impale, and never seen a crit. Maybe it is using weapon crit chance.

I can confirm that practically every Nightblade melee class spell uses Weapon Crit (but is still increased in damage by Magicka and, I BELIEVE, Spell Damage). This also applies to the Siphoning tree Ultimate spell, despite it not really seeming like a weapon hit.

You can test this by using Shadowy Disguise from the Shadow tree and quickly looking at your character sheet. Only Weapon Crit is increased by that spell, not Spell Crit. So, if Shadowy Disguise makes an ability crit, that ability uses Weapon Crit.

Ok in 23 levels i have never seen an impale crit, i'm using magelight have 18% spell crit. Even if it did use weapon crit my weapon seems to crit sometimes even though i have 0% weapon crit in the character sheet.

Impale is an execute ability and receives bonuses under a certain health % (30% i believe) thus does not benefit from the ability to ever crit.

Mages Fury can crit. Impale is just broken.

I noticed the same stuff. No criticals for impale. Possibly need to unlock all passive abilities...

I dont use addons to track damage, so it's hard for me to test this, but I have heard several times now that many nightblade abilities (impale, the assassination ultimate, teleport strike, and veiled strike) function off of melee critical chance, rather than spell critical chance. Whether or not this is working as intended is up for debate, I suppose.

Personally I hope they're based on melee crit, because as a medium armor user I'm rocking over 20% critical chance right now, and that number is going to keep going up.

it would make no sence they would proc of of physical crit as they are spells that cost mana, it would undermine their whole class system.

I can say for certainty that Killer's Blade morph does crit. (and phys crit)

OP I am assuming you running something like a warlock build and using impale as a range finisher. Impale receives its ability to crit from melee crit. All class skills for all classes use magica for both their resource and their scaling, however, a very large portion of NB and even other classes have their class skills classified as melee and thus receive their crit chance from your melee crit chance and not your spell crit chance. This has been confirmed by players through testing. I currently have something like 38% spell crit chance and only like 5% melee crit chance. Due to that impale almost never crits for me, it is still however an excellent finisher.

I did some testing just now.

With 33% base weapon critical + Weapon crit potion I have 69% Weapon Critical.
With Shadowy Disguise on top of that, I have 169% Weapon Critical.

Impale still consistently does not crit.

With 7% base Spell Crit + Spell Crit potion, I have 43% Spell Crit.

Impale still consistently does not crit.

With the Spell Crit potion, Swallow Soul does crit however.

I'm going to write in a /bug report that Impale does not crit.

Most of the abilities are weapon crit (which honestly, makes sense when passives, dual wield, and medium armor are taken into account), but yes Impale does seem to be broken.

It makes no sence that the ability's use weapon crit they use mana either add it to the tooltip's (counts as melee or counts as magica) it's all just utterly confusing while it doesn't has to be.

Don't get me wrong i'm ok with ability's being melee crit, but atleast let people know that these ability's use either one or the other. So people can spec appropriately without going trough all the tree's trying to find out what stacks with what.

On that note i also think they should either add ranged crit melee crit and magica crit or simply remove melee crit and change it to physical crit. It seems they are using alot of terms inconsistently in the game(talking khajit last racial as an example here adds melee crit but it actually adds physical crit as it also counts towards my bow crit rate).

For the record Shadowy Disguise does increase spell crit, or at least it did when I tested it by using it with the character sheet open last week.

I was also a bit confused by the crit factors, but learned to see that like this:

They basically doesn’t talk about physical crit, magicka crit or stamina crit. In the character sheet is clearly defined as “spell crit” and “weapon crit”.

So if you hit the target with a weapon, no matter if ranged or melee and no matter what resource the attack consume, magicka or stamina, as soon the target is hit by a weapon, the weapon crit should rule. The confusing thing is, that we have many weapon attacks which use magicka as attack resource and many players see a magicka consuming attack as spell. But agree, Impale doesn’t crit and I’d never understood what Impale is classified, spell or weapon attack. The fact that weapon attacks uses magicka as attack resource is another matter of discussion.

I can explain my theory on the mana consuming physical based skill?

Nightblade assassination and shadow tree use magicka as a resource so for the nightblade to be able to specialise into physical damage and have a constant damaging source.

    What does this mean?

It means once you are fully out of stamina you can start spamming that Impale to keep dealing damage..,. it means when you out of stamina you can use the shadow phys ability to increase stamina regen and ready up to keep attacking it also mean Nightblade get to be able to use both resource and gain damage from the physical bonus on both. I heard some of those spell are weapon critical based... this means Nightblade by default was created to be a hybrid resource user not just a stamina spammer.

On the other side of it the morph for the heal doesn't heal you OFTEN. I'd say at least 1 chance in 3 it will heal for nothing rather than the 18% it's supposed to.
