ESO via Handheld Consoles

So, I recently pre-ordered the ROG Xbox Ally X so I can game (mostly ESO) on the go!

I want to hear from other players who have used the ESO PC Launcher (not through Steam) to game on their own handheld device (Asus ROG Ally X, Lenovo Legion Go, MSI Claw 8 AI+) and what kind of an experience did you have, do you switch to console UI to play, any performance concerns or general advice about taking ESO on the go.

Also, if there are any devs (Ill tag community managers) that have tested ESO with the ROG Xbox Ally X and can comment at this time if there will be an optimised version as I'm aware ESO currently isn't available through the Xbox PC Store which is typically where you see optimised versions.

Not directly responsive to your specific question but I use the PlayStation Portal and, while not perfect, ESO is playable and at times quite good looking. Streaming via PlayStation Plus works better for me than streaming from my own box most of the time.

This doesnt help you in any way, but i think its absolutely hilarious that i can use moonlight on my 2dsxl to play ESO via steam

I use a Legion Go, it runs fine on that.
I use mine on quiet mode, but could easily ramp up the graphics if I wanted using performance mode. I use a controller on PC and console, so it feels the same that way. Mods can be a bit of a pain, the menus are small and fat fingers and tiny boxes are what they are! :)
Could use a mouse and keyboard for that if I wanted, but life's too short to lug those around as well.

II try to have a bit of pc functionality, just for the mod side of things.

Thanks for asking about this. Let me poke around and ask the dev team for info.

I play on my Steam Deck nowadays (installed with Lutris, then added it as a non-Steam shortcut), but I put a mouse and keyboard on it. I've tried controller years ago but switched back in no time. I found it nearly undoable to play an MMO that way. Game runs great. But then, it's not a very demanding game. I've had it run fine on simple office laptops with mediocre specs and no GPU as well.

I did notice that while it properly auto-switched to console layout on my desktop (also Linux), it doesn't do so on the Steam Deck. Not sure what's up with that. Might be nice to get that figured out for those times I just quickly want to do some daily stuff.

I'm not as active as I would like there, but I sometimes write stuff on the UESP.

Question for the community. I’ve only ever played Xbox and so my eso account is attached to the Xbox platform. Does the XBOX ROG Ally let you link up and play your Xbox account of ESO or does it only play the PC version via Steam. Also if anyone has any insights to whether the new Xbox handheld is good for eso, please share.

And in terms of eso on handhelds. My friend plays on Steam deck. He says occasionally UI issues but he’s a casual player and he said for that it’s great.

I play on a MSI Claw 8+ and enjoy the smooth gameplay and fantastic graphic settings (second highest possible).

Only writing (in the Chat / to search at a Guild Trader) is cumbersome, sometimes the Camera suddenly turns around wildly by itself (deadly for me as a pure PvPer) and I find bar swapping rather slow, so I keep on using Oakensoul.
Last point mentioned, though, might be my own incompetence as being in the 50+ age range…. 🫣
