Christian Social Guild

Our Morning Song is an ecumenical Christian social guild with several weekly events and a fully stocked guild hall, a wonderfully decorated Pantherfang Chapel. We currently run dungeons Tuesday evenings, PVP on Mondays, and normal trials (we'll do vet if we get enough interest) on Fridays, all events 7 - 9 CT.

If you're looking to play ESO with fellow believers and family-friendly chat, message @Jordan_Black in game or look for us in the guild finder.

Promoting real world religion in game? I thought that was against the ToS.

They are promoting a "christian only" guild. So Muslims, atheist's etc. are not welcome in their guild. They are not just promoting religion, they are promoting one religion to the exclusion of others.

What's the difference between discrimination of membership based on religion vs. based on race?

This is why religion has to be kept out of the game all together, with the exception of game related lore of course.

We have had several non-Christians (agnostics usually) join because they enjoy our wholesome vibe. I don't know why a Muslim would want to join a Christian guild but if any want to, I'm happy to talk to them. Happy to talk to anyone interested for whatever reason.

Right now there is a guild in Greyhost PC NA that advertises itself as a christian non cursing guild and is policing zone chat and reporting everyone who curses or discusses any topic they don't approve of. People are getting banned for nothing other than using adult language in an M rated game. These guys could be using the profanity filter and putting those who curse on ignore, but they don't. Instead they've appointed themselves the speech police.

    Are you fine with this?

The guild I am referring to is not the guild the OP is advertising. The problem is religious groups very rarely maintain the same respect and consideration of those outside their group as they do for those within. They tend to expect everyone else to conform to their arbitrary standards, and that's a problem for everyone.

What part of my approving of a guild creating a community of players they would like to play with calls into question if I am fine with people maliciously reporting others in game?

It's a guild advertisement. ZOS seems to consider it within the TOS which I would presume puts it in the same basket as guilds based on region, language, LGBTQ+ status, and arguably even the roleplay guilds that require a certain race or character background. I would guess because you can still join even if you're not a part of the group the guild is made for.

Considering ZOS allows it, then, well... they allow it and harassing one guild posting isn't gonna change that. I don't think further discussion about Christianity is right for a gaming forum? If you don't like it then just move on. If a guild is genuinely affecting your gameplay then report them.

We have LGBT-friendly guilds in the game. Why can't we have a Christian-friendly guild? If one is allowed, why not the other? Would it be okay for someone to have a guild for those who live on the west coast of the USA, or would that be discriminating against those who live on the east coast? IOW, what's the problem with gamers wanting to join a guild with folks they have something in common with? A lot of guilds are like that.

And how is having a Christian guild promoting a religion? I don't see the connection.

Having a Christian guild is not promoting religion. The OP did not ask anyone to convert to their faith, or even speak of what their Christian beliefs are. They only made players that may wish to play with other Christians, or those that enjoy family friendly chat, aware of their guild in case this is what they are seeking.

The OP is not promoting religion. They did not ask anyone to convert to their faith. In fact, they didn't even speak of what their Christian beliefs are. They only made players that may wish to play with other Christians, or those that enjoy family friendly chat, aware of their guild in case this is what they are seeking.

Indeed, there are guilds that cater to LGBTQ players, veterans, players from certain countries or who speak certain languages, players of certain age groups, just to name a few. Funny that religion seems to set people off to such an extent, when it's not actually being pushed on anyone in this instance. People are entitled to their own beliefs and to associate with others they'd like to associate with. A player guild in ESO is not some kind of government service or public accommodation - almost every guild has some sort of criteria for the type of member they're looking for.

Just to add, would it be somehow better if guilds weren't up front about the kind of members who would be a good fit? It seems to me that this sort of information is quite helpful because players who aren't interested in a guild's focus, or whose own beliefs or values clash with a guild, can simply avoid it instead of having to join only to find out it's not the right guild for them?

Of course there's a line and if players are preaching in chat, trying to convert people, abusing the reporting system for their own ends, promoting hate speech against other groups, etc., that's obviously different. But there's no evidence of that whatsoever in this guild ad, and if something like that *is* occurring, it should be reported so it can be addressed.

Not once did the OP say they are a "Christian only" guild. Nor did they state that Muslims or atheists are not welcome. In fact, they replied "We have had several non-Christians (agnostics usually) join because they enjoy our wholesome vibe. I don't know why a Muslim would want to join a Christian guild but if any want to, I'm happy to talk to them. Happy to talk to anyone interested for whatever reason."

Grouping with others of the same faith is not bringing religion into the game. They are not discussing their beliefs in zone chat or promoting others to convert to their beliefs. Denying players the right to form guilds of like minded players based on their religious beliefs would be discrimination.
