Why was this character killed off? (Warning spoilers)

I was upset when they killed Darian off but then he showed up as meridia's golden saint in summerset but why did they have to kill off gabrielle? Do you think she too will return or is this the end for her? Her and Darian had a bit of a romance going on and I'm wondering if they decided not to continue with that.

My theory is its BECAUSE her and Darien had a bit of a romance going on. As a Darien enjoyer, she felt like competition and I’m glad she’s gone because of that.

Especially considering ZOS actually gives us the option now to start a romantic relationship with him.

Though my elf might admit to a bit of fluster when Darien walks around shirtless, she realizes he's an incorrigible skirt chaser (like Jakarn) and quite unsuitable as a mate.

Gabriel, on the other hand, is the only mage we've met that has the potential to be Arch Mage. And given the pompous nature of Vanus, we were quite hoping someday to see Gabriel replace him.

Same. I'm ngl I was worried they were gonna bring her back to continue the romance so I sought out spoilers lol. Regarding Eastern Solstice:

Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I learned we finally get to rescue Darien from Meridia AND start a romance with him. It's like they found my content wishlist 🤣

The problem is she has a LOT of Antiquarian Circle correspondence letters meaning she is important to a LOT of other quests in the game which now will be extremely awkward to do if they do not resurrect her.

Also, I do not get what this obsession with Darien is, isn't he that guy from the Summerset questline?

He’s in 3 quest chains: Daggerfall Covenant, Main Quest, Summerset. I think he’s one of the most well written characters due to his developing connection to Meridia spanning multiple questlines. Not everyone loves him but to each their own— I don’t like Naryu and she’s another pretty popular “I want to date this NPC” target. All I can really say is Darien seems like the kinda guy to hold open a door for people instead of just opening it for himself.

I'm sad because they killed off their breton mage with the most potential. I was hoping she would grow and become great after ESO's story. Something that could catch up to the great mages of history.

I just wish we had more relevant breton mages .

Walks-In-Ash absolutely spoiled it for me just by doing the intro quest to do the Stirk dailies for this Wall Event. Even ZOS couldn't spoiler warning it for an Event that everyone can participate in, lawl.

I also really like Darien, and think he's well-written. Some may write him off as a Jakarn but I think he uses his behavior during DC story to mask insecurities and the fear he has over his nightmares/prophecies. I also feel that he can probably relate to the Vestige in ways the other characters cannot, given how our existence has been tempered by Meridia and I can't help but feel the player was also used as a tool by her.

I do wish they'd do more with Meridia and it seems they might, if they continue with the present Darien story.

Just so long as it doesn't involve Meridia's Beacon randomly showing up in a chest, and you not finding out it's a quest item that you can't simply get rid of until after you hit "Loot All"...

I really hated that they killed Gabrielle (and also Merric-at-Aswala), I get that they wanted to make it a dramatic story with consequences, but Gabriele was part of so many adventures with the Vestige, she is in the Antiquarian's Circle quest chain, and I've always thought that eventually she would continue Vanus' work in the Mages Guild. If they killed her because of Darien's return, then I'd rather that they hadn't brought Darien back at this time, and left it for a future Meridia-centric chapter. If they killed her because of an eventual player romance with Darien, then that's what the new dialogue options are for: they could have an option for a Darien-Gabriele leaning dialogue, and then another for the player. Killing off long-standing characters unceremoniously without good reason, and also bringing back characters like Mannimarco, again without a good explanation, are the marks of poor story-telling. The whole worm-cult attacking again (and with Coldharbour's aid) was generally a poor plot idea, but at least they could have saved it with interesting character situations, but this wasn't it. I wonder how the latest stories that we've had get approval from Bill and the higher-ups in the writing team, they are so forgettable, non-immerisive (especially with modern meme-type reactions and humor in some of the dialogues), and just devoid of heart.

I hope that the writers bring back Gabrielle. Something like they did with Curate Gadayn in the West Weald story would work for me.
