Has anyone ever actually managed to unlock gifting by submitting support tickets?

Bladedancer506
I've been playing ESO on this account (Xbox X) for about 5 years, log in at least 5 or 6 days a week, and I belong to 4 different guilds (two for houses, and two for selling). I mean, I'm not one of those play-for-8-hours-a-day people, but I put a fair amount of time into playing, and I've bought DLC packages from the MS store.

I have a niece who visits and this was a good game for us to play when she was here. She started to really like Elder Scrolls, so a couple of months ago I purchased some crowns thinking when her birthday rolled around I could gift her a few items and some DLC of her own. At the time I didn't realize I couldn't just do this automatically (I've since read all about the problems surrounding this issue).

To say this has been a disappointing experience is an understatement. I've submitted around 8 support tickets, and I get nothing back but auto-generated denials. I've even offered to let them leave gifting locked if they can just help me do a one time transaction to use the crowns (which I paid real money for) for a gift. I said I could supply the user name of the other recipient. Nothing.

I'm just wondering, am I wasting my time here, or do these tickets ever actually work to unlock gifting?

I like this game and I've been a Bethesda fan for 20 years, but I won't lie, this experience has soured me. I'm about ready to just give up and cut my losses. I'm certainly wary of spending any more money on ESO.

Anyone have any advice for sorting this out?

Most important thing, do not submit multiple different tickets!

Each new ticket sends you to the back of the queue.

Reply to the automated mail on one ticket and continue to do so every time a mail comes in and eventually you will get a human on the other end! If you don't continue to reply your ticket will be closed.

Also use the forum search feature, there are plenty of older threads about gifting they may contain info that could help you!

    Good Luck.! 🙂

Thank you for the reply...I will try responding to each one. Do I basically just try to remind them that I've had my account for years, and that I do login regularly and belong to guilds?

They won't release the full list of requirements to enable gifting, they say it is to prevent fraud and "bad actors".

As I mentioned above there are a lot of threads about gifting if you search for them. Just type gifting in the search box and you should see how other people have got on.

We can only guess why some people get it enabled easily and others have real struggles. 😕

Gifting should be automatically enabled. If for no other reason than when a person is assumed to be guilty before they even log in that player unconsciously and consciously assigns the same inference to the company the company has onto the consumer. The assumption of guilt feels like projection.

That ZOS refuses to list what the requirements are for gifting makes it feel like ZOS is not approaching this issue in good faith.

I submitted a ticket last year to unlock gifting and it was easy peasy. Within 24 hours it had been unlocked. As tempting as it can be, only submit one ticket. Try to give as much detail as possible. I do think support is more responsive to PC accounts over console, so bad luck there, but I hope they get back to you soon.

I found this whole thing baffling. It's been more than 60 days since I purchased the crowns, so I can't do a charge back at this point anyway. Microsoft certainly isn't going to refund me after that much time. So what's the risk in them restricting me (or anyone in that situation).

If I put money on my Xbox account using gift cards, I have no problem gifting things to people. But the fact that Z forces you to deal with their online "currency", then puts all these restrictions on it, is pretty upsetting. I know people might say, "well, it's only $50", but the point is, it's my $50.

As I said before, I'd be happy(ish) if someone from this company would help me gift the items on a one-time basis. They don't have to permanently unlock gifting, but if I can give them the gamertag of the recipient, and the items I want gifted, at least I'd be using the crowns for their intended purpose.

I wish it had been that easy. So far I've put in ten tickets. I get the automated reply, inviting me to appeal, which do, then I get another reply saying my request will not be granted, at which point they close the ticket. So I have to start the process over.

I'm struggling to come up with an example of any other retail company outside gaming that would get away with a policy like this.

Thanks for this link. Parts of the site seem to be undergoing maintenance, but as soon as I can get through I'll try this again.

I'm not sure if I overlooked part of this process, but the sixth part of the community manager's post mentioned filling out information about your request. When I did this, I didn't see any window for providing more information. It just asked me to click to confirm that I had the account for a while, was part of a community group, etc, and then submit.

Was there someplace on this page where you can make your case for unlocking gifting? I tried to look again, but as I said the site keeps coming up with maintenance alerts right now.

If you go through the process exactly as described by Kevin, you shoild get a text box to add any other relevent/important information. 🙂

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong (I'm Atari generation, so my tech skills might be a little weak :) ). For the last step in his instructions, I don't get a form. I get a section of text that reads exactly as follows (I cut and pasted it). Right below the word yes, there's a button to submit. But no place to give any extraneous details about my particular situation.

Please fill out the following information:

The following ticket submission form is intended to be used to submit a request for the ability to use in-game Crown Store gifting.

Once your ticket is submitted, you will receive an incident number where you can track the progress of your request. After the agreed upon requirements are confirmed, you will receive a confirmation / denial of your request.

By selecting “Submit” you agree to the below:
    - Your account must be in good standing (No Safety/ToS violations in the last six months).
    - Your account must be 90+ days old at the time of the request.
    - Account must show consistent game play activity and be active in an in-game ESO community.
    - Please allow at least 7-10 days to process your request.

Do you agree to the above? *

    Yes

Yep that is what I see too, either I am remembering wrong/it was different when I last asked OR something which is entirely possible, I am remembering a text box from when I appealed......

One of my secondary accounts was refused turned out it was too new at the time I applied, haven't got around to trying again so hadn't seen the new-ish form, sorry!

No worries, it could be that they streamlined it by putting all those bullet point things you were supposed to verify first (like being in a game community, etc), rather than having people write it out.

Once they respond to your first appeal, and close the ticket, is that when you can submit another?

Oh tell me about it, my glasses need glasses and my first video game experience was Pong....... it totally amazed me at the time!! :D

I still tend to do things in a very round about way, then someone says something like "Oh no, you just need to click this, this and this" and I'm like "Really??"

Oh good, I don't feel as bad. I watch my niece (the one I'm trying to gift things to) navigate social media on her phone and I feel like I'm watching the scene from Aliens where Bishop does "the thing with the knife".
