Possible stutter/fps-drop fix

Got bad stutter or fps-drops at places like Elden Root or Wayrest?

Try turning OFF the "limit background FPS" option in the video settings.

I still get some acceptable drops in FPS. But this pretty much removed the 0.5 second freezes I get while running around in those areas and the menu's behave much smoother there.

Been struggling with this for a couple of months so hope this helps someone :)

@ZOS_Kevin Nope I can't, the issue is completely resolved even after turning it back ON again :o

The game would consistently freeze for 0,5 seconds while going under this bridge (towards the wayshrine) for example:2rxr95osiflx.png

The world map would stutter when moving it around when using the wayshrine.

It all started after I had hit "Optimize" in the Nvidia App, so it's definitely Nvidia GPU related.

Playing PCEU, Fullscreen, 1920x1080. Instead of my FPS dipping to 80 it now dips to 50 but the stutter is gone o:)

You can cap your frames in the game's .ini file by adjusting the value: SET MinFrameTime.2 "X"

    So if you want 100 FPS, you would plug in: 1 / 100 = 0.01 for X.

IMO, it's a better way than relying on an outside app. But also, if you want smoother frames, generally don't run uncapped or at a capped threshold that is super close to utilizing 100% of your GPU. As that will give you basically zero headroom for when a scene becomes more complex, resulting in more frequent and larger dips. If you cap it to a value that only uses ~60-80% of your GPU then you have more of a cushion and your frames won't swing around as much. Which is, again IMO, better quality of life while playing.

Oh this stutter was 100% caused by the Nvidia App.

Never ever hitting "optimize" in that thing again.

Nothing helps. Setting MinFrameTime.2 to 0.0125 certainly reduces the FPS to 80 but the stutter is still present. Toggling "limit background FPS" doesn't remedy the problem, as expected. Reducing DLSS and Ambient occlusion settings doesnt't help either. I even tried enabling Vsync but to no avail.

From time to time the game just freezes for 2-3 sec, then resumes normally. In my opinion it has nothing to do with asset loading into the VC because it often happens while i'm running from the writ board to a nearby crafting station. And it's absolutely infuriating when it occurs while i'm tanking a vet trial boss.

For me the stutter started with U48. Unfortunately i've upgraded the Nvidia driver at the same time so i can't be sure which one is the culprit - the new driver or the game update. It's a shame really, because im playing on a brand new Acer Helios 18 with RTX 5080. My older laptop with Nvidia 2080 (which my wife uses now) still runs the game without a hickup.

@ivaylo.krumoveb17_ESO try turning "limit background FPS" OFF but first setting the slider all the way to 100.

    Does that help?

No, unfortunately. Thanks for the help, but the stutter is still present.

Just for the record, "smooth motion ON" from Nvidia settings doesn't help either.

Well, its not like the game is unplayable, far from it, it's just another annoying glitch. I'll wait till ZOS or Nvidia can be bothered to figure it out, i guess.
