Can we please have an option to disable double XP?

Are there some players here who, like me, prefer to level at a moderate pace? There are times I need to level quickly (for example, while levelling a subclassed line), but generally I prefer not to. So during events with double XP, I find myself slowing down my activities to avoid jumping too many levels ahead for no reason. But then it becomes particularly problematic when there is a concurrent event going on with rewards I want to grind for.

So I'd love a way to disable event double XP. I think? atm we can right click on our buff list to disable XP scroll bonuses, so I'm asking for the same treatment for event-related XP bonuses. Let us dismiss/disable our event XP bonus with a click.

It was like this for nearly a decade until last year.

Your forum account is 7.5 years old. If you didn't get your 'moderately paced levelling' done in that time then maybe you in fact do need the double xp event.

People make new characters and not everyone wants to grind through the game as quickly as possible. Not up to you to dictate how people should play their characters.
I get where you're coming from OP, leveling a new character is all part of the fun for me, and while I personally don't mind the automatic bonus it wouldn't be bad to be able to opt out if you don't want to partake.

Why? What would I need it for? I have enough CP to cover the needed perks. I don't need nor want to be max CP anytime soon.

(Edited out my response to Grafahel due to misinterpretation of their post).

It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the idea of disabling xp, but on the other hand I do not grind it during events like these. I could be close to 3600 if I did. It’s just a number at this point. Sure, it would look impressive if I maxed it out but it wouldn’t be fun.

I think the counter argument has been that players could keep their characters in an under 50 Cyrodiil campaign longer, but who goes there anymore?

So we made the change to constant 2xp because we got plenty of feedback from folks saying they would forget to reapply the 2xp buff during events. It became a pain point that we solved with applying the 2xp along with the event.

As for the ask for disabling the 2xp, we have heard this ask as few times in the last two years. Not many, but we do get them. Right now it is not something we plan to do. The current goals are to work on more of the community requests for QoL and bug fixes. Especially those that have been noting in our request threads for pain points and bugs. Those are being prioritized. However, we will share with the team for their knowledge.

    I prefer it automatically applied.

I still remember when I started playing and was just discovering the vast amount of content of the base game that I never applied those XP bonuses for the first months I played because if you didnt read guides and articles of how stuff like starting quest, XP buff items, tickets, fragments, morphs, vendors worked it was all pretty daunting and overwhelming as a new player.

When I finally sunk enough time in the game and read up some guides I knew how everything worked, but I still remember I set a timer on my phone so I remembered to reapply the XP buff. Personally I think the automatic buff and simplification of the fragment system is a huge QOL change.

I definitely prefer it to be automatically applied too. My only gripe - and it's super small - is the lack of an icon. Otherwise, happy with this system.

I don't think anyone is asking for it to not be applied automatically, but rather for a way to turn it off. I know that "this other game does the thing in question this way" aren't very popular posts, but just to illustrate how it could be added without interrupted the automatic application another game has a doohickey you can use to disable it that is a per character choice with absolutely zero effect on other players.

I would love a way to selectively disable both double xp events and even the ESO+ perk for my alts but mainly for my sub-50 characters as I feel absolutely no rush to get them to 50. Having an option other than simply not playing those characters during the event would be fantastic, but given Kevin's post above it appears it isn't likely to happen.

It seems to me that the request to be able to disable the double XP bonus is like the arguments of the past with the requirements to drink the brew, summon the crows, or whatever was used to trigger the XP boost.

I admit that there were many times, for many events, I did not remember to trigger the bonus... There were also characters I chose not to trigger it, and that is the point being made, allowing us to choose not to get the double XP. This would only affect someone who chooses to disable it, for whatever reason.

In my case, I am in a group of players that has been doing trials on characters that are between 3 and 14 for over 2 years. I find it a great deal of fun, a challenge, and something that in rough times has kept me playing ESO. Double XP means that I am forced to delete and remake those characters more often, and that part is my least favorite part... in fact, I would love to see a setting (Per character, not account) that would freeze the character's advancement.

Who wouldn't want to be young forever...
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

I’ve never heard anyone ask for a feature to disable double xp…

Why disable it?? What harm could it cause?? It just seems like more dev effort that isn’t needed IMO.

Yes it is mostly just a number after about 1600, though one possible drawback is there are increased expectations of our competence as we approach max level.

I do wish we had some non-combat advantage to continue levelling. It would be a good thing for everyone if we could get more green perks to spend CPs on, at least that would be something to look forward to. We still haven't been given any antiquity-related perks, for one. But that's a topic for another thread, I guess.

This is an mmo, if people care about that they should try single player games or stick to questing i guess i dunno.

There's ways to go about this if that's what you're into but of all the issues in an mmo this is beyond minimal, and honestly for the grand majority isn't an issue at all.

Oh, I have no problem with it being automatically applied, I just want to be able to right-click to cancel, like we can cancel certain buffs (not sure how console users do it).

It's specifically because it's an MMO that careful levelling is important to me.

But I don't dispute that it isn't a major issue; as Kevin mentioned in his post, there are a lot of QoL, pain points and bugs to iron out first.

Shortly before multiclassing was announced, I levelled a new tank - because why not. (She has been shelved since multiclassing, because why bother.)

And for that, I stopped doing dungeons with her during double-XP events, because the pledge or RND XP caused me to jump like five levels or so at once. But I wanted to go through the base-game dungeons slower, to get the skill points, before hitting level 50. If the character is below 50, everyone knows it's a new one.
And I wanted a more controlled XP gain so I could shift skills on my bar to what needed levelling, instead of wasting huge amounts of XP on already levelled skills.

It's a niche problem, but it's not complete nonsense.
