This MMO is not role play friendly at all with class skills.

Endlessvoid_ESO
So when I came to TESO, thinking I could play the game how I wanted too; I was so wrong. Later on after level 43, began noticing I was dying way to much and figured it was the lack of a ultimate. So I spent a single skill point in shadow section for cloak of darkness and got shadow up to 50 for the ultimate. It was fine until I got to Rank 2 content and I was dying a lot.

I started out with Bow and DW tree line only but now, comparing them to the class skills, they are no where near on par with damage or crowd control offering plus with the morphing boosts.

I began reading up on what works with what and found many players went with critical bursts and critical damage increase; having playing MMOs for many years this combo always get nerfed in the long haul to balance things for PvP or if it makes PvE Bosses die to quickly. However ignoring that major detail, I don't like the idea on how weak the weapon skills are. I went through most of TESO, solo mode, just with weapon skill trees, but now in Vet content it seems I am forced to use the class skills if I want to continue to solo, which sucks.

I am not happy I spent my early access and most of my free month subscription to find this out later in the long haul that this doesn't work. Yet what upsets me the most is that lack of customization of playing the game how you want, as advertised. I refuse to skill up the other trees just because they are there to skill up but still, I believe the weapon skill lines should have their own ultimate and more utility use if you choose not to focus on class skills.

Otherwise I hate to say it but, while I love Elder Scrolls, I don't see wasting money on a monthly subscription if I am going to be frustrated and forced to play different skill set up because other skills are broken or not really useful.

I don't see a lack of customization involved. In fact quite the opposite. I also don't see a lack of being able to role play, quite the opposite in fact, and the first MMO in a very long time where I feel like actually falling into the role of my character instead of it just being another bag of stats.

I've built my way, but I look at hints and guides. Thinking you should be able to do fine one way without having to adjust your strategy is not a lack of ability to role play, that is just lack of foresight on your end, realistically.

Right... so looking at other threads saying similar complaints on how certain skills are lacking and you are forced to use the working better skills compare to skills you want to use because they dont work or lack, is "lack of foresight". Talk about a waste of breath.

I think what the OP was trying to say was that if you wanted to play a character who only uses weapons (bows, swords, etc) for RP reasons, it's not really viable, since the game appears balanced around needing/using ultimates from class skills. If you instead don't have those abilities, which you wouldn't if you were playing a strictly non-magical character who only uses weapons, you're at such a disadvantage that you're not actually viable.

weapon skills should scale better at higher levels than class skills. Your class skills (spells) are magicka and level based for their damage output. Weapon skills are stamina and level based, but also deal additional damage based on the damage of your equiped weapon. If you use a higher quality weapon, your damage with weapon skills should go up, but your class skills will remain at hte same damage amount.

Thank you. While you have much greater patience than I do on the obvious matter and more kindness to a troll or uninformed MMO player, this is exactly one part of the whole problem.

It seems to me that "cbrown15_ESO" is a type of person whoms play style is "Jack of all trades" and really this post has nothing to do with him in the first place since it has nothing to do with that kind of game play. I really appreciate that there are some people that understand the issue at hand. Not to mention, I dont think he understands how role play works.

Actually I do, and I do enjoy that you love insulting people who disagree with you. If you think I haven't played MMOs, then you will find you are sorely mistaken. I've been playing MMOs since December of 1997, with UO being my first MMO, which I played and RP'd in for 7 years. I've played WoW, City of Heroes, Horizons (before it became Istaria), Dark Age of Camelot, Champions Online, DC Universe Online, Lord of the Rings Online, Warhammer Online, and various others that would be too numerous to list.

I also specifically go for RP, but also know that RP hasn't been very good in MMOs since the onset of WoW style game play for a while. And actually I don't build a jack of all trades, I build specifically (tank in my case), but keep it in my theme, and actually look to play a specific way. Having personal issues with a power not performing the way you want it to is a completely different issue from believing it kills your RP immersion.

And also I've been table top PnPing since the 80s, so really trying to insult me to make yourself look bigger is not helping your case.

@ cbrown15_ESO Your opinion and points would matter if you were part of this discussion in the first place the correct way, instead you choose to brag about yourself. Please go troll somewhere else.

Actually you chose to be insulting, I am sorry you don't care for a difference of opinion. You say it's trolling I am sorry, I had a different opinion and you chose instead to insult. And now you are saying I am bragging to counter your point of your insult and instead of accepting that you continue to insult. So far, the only person that's trolling is you. There are options, I am sorry you don't think it's an option.

And I still stick by my point, it doesn't hurt your RP. You just refuse to accept that point of view, and you will call it trolling. Considering how powerful the weapon skill lines can get on their own, the ultimate will either be ridiculously overpowered or ridiculously weak to begin with. And with over 300 skill points to choose from and options outside of the class skills for an ultimate, I think your point of view is misleading.

i actually agree with him solo or not, the weapon skill lines are pretty bad.

one hand and shield is one of the weakest.

there is no tank that uses anything other than defensive stance and taunt.

the others cost to much stamina and give to little to make it worhtwhile, no stamina regenaration wich we need as tanks.

and no ability for additional tankyness/debuff/buff for ourself.

the selfbuffs we use is magicka based only.

Becuse we cannot afford waste stamina on it not a single one.

i am vet rank 3, so i know what im talking about i got alts and i can theorycraft on other weaponlines, and see that many of the spells, are not to useful and "wierd"

For instance 2hand, has really weak things for singeltarget damage.

the execute is nice and all that but other than that?

There is no choice in what abilities you want to pick up really.

There should be more active and passives in every tree imo, and your build should stand out more from others, becuse then you dont place all points in everything, you almost can do that right now, while i agree its all dandy and all that.

it removes alot from the game imo.

if i want a singeltarget dps tank or great singel target heal.

I should be able to choose that in every tree period, nomatter what weapon.
its how i slot the abilities and what i "talent active" or talent passive that should determinate if i can do it or not.

right now some wepaon skill lines is, this is horrible at singel target and this is awsome for it.

Forcing players to use wepaonlines they dont want to, i agree with some bosses to pick of a bow instead of go melee in raids, and all that but when it forces you to pick other. weaponstyle, it just feels wrong.

This is pretty much an overall assessment of what I've been noticing with ESO. With all its mechanics. Its trying to make every character a balanced character.

With no real purpose in specializing in anything. The skills, the overcharging, the scaling of weapons all having the exact same base damage no matter what weapon you choose, weither its a two handed axe or a dagger.

It just feels that they are trying to subtly push people to a jack of all trades playstyle.

I do see the point here. As in other Elder Scrolls titles, the weapons IMO should say do more damage, have a chance to break through shields, etc. as you gain a level in the weapopns, and not by using skill points just from levelling it. It should still have skill point based attacks and passives but the more skilled you are with the weapon, the more damage and other things you should be able to do with it naturally. I think ZOS (or hope) would see this and fix it in the future. Me I mainly play my sorc, and a DK, and both use class skills too so I don't mind so much but it would make more sense to me.

l agree with the op. Not everyone wants to play a magical character and this game, in its current state, has made it so that every class needs magic. Hopefully they impliment new skills and balance the weapon skills with class skills.

ive managed to lvl my DK using 2h skills up to Vrank 1. Onward using heavy armor and just a 2h weapon i could barley solo 2 mobs without dying. Now at Vrank 5 I have been forced to use sword and shield along with the magic spells from the class tree just to be able to barley do a few quests on my own. Its a shame that I cant play my DK the way i wanna and I am sure from the few comments that ive read that others share my frustration.

I hate bumping a thread but is there any chance Zenimax, you are going to buff Weapon skills?

Its become extremely frustrating in playing this game and now coming with Vet Rank Dungeons its becoming extremely noticeable that I cannot offer the same dps without going out of Role play, or making OP magic builds with the already discussed and discovered guides that is required for End game.

I am starting to regret in subbing and investing in this game. Hopefully by Craglorn Patch update, something will be offered. If not, I dont see myself continuing with this game.

I was thinking for a backstory for my character, since she is a dragon knight in the game, in the story, when it starts telling her past she found a breton (she is a nord) who created her, since that breton have some knowledge in the magic arts, he knows she has a spirit of a dragon, since she have a spirit of a dragon she can learn abilities of the dragons. At least some of them, no she isn´t a dragon born, simple she born in a poor family who were killed by some group of bandits, she was violated, but shes escaped, she grew up with a noble breton, the life was hard to her, it isn´t easy to live while we lost everything in our live that we loved, but her courage, her will to live and to fight gave inspiration to the ppl who knew her, so because of that, the breton says she has a dragon spirit, because after everything she has passed in her life, she was still alive, maybe the divines abandoned her or not, but alot of the answers is found in the game. And that ladies and gentlemans is a resume of the story of my character, Martha Gjarnsson.

So if you have inspiration and imagination the classes won´t be a problem, while I don´t like the classes either, because class skill ends up to be more important than the weapon skills for example, it doesn´t harm the backstory to your character and you still can have alot of custumization, since you can ignore all the skills of the class, you just put what you want in your action bar and still be effective, unlike World of Warcraft for example you can still make crazy builds and still be effective, that is what I like in this game and to be honest since 2012 when ZoS said that the game would have classes I was agaisn´t that and I admit still, I am agaisn´t that, but well accept what you have, it is still better than have nothing.

As someone else said earlier, now is not the time for major balance changes. That said this is an online game, it's TESO, and because of that not every single build will be viable in the game, not every single skill will be as good as the others on it's own because there will always be people who find and use the optimal builds which will cast shadow over the others. It's a harsh fact to accept but it's the truth.

All that said, they do know that a lot of weapon skills aren't scaling well enough to compete with class skills at the end of the game, they do intend to bring them up to par but right now they're focusing on fixing the hundreds if not thousands of bugs in the game that are creating major issues, which at this stage of the game is what they should be doing, focus on the bugs..focus on the gamebreaking things, but leave the rest of the balancing for a later date until the game has been ironed out a bit.
