Broken UI Glow Texture

Seeing lots of issues like this in the UI after the patch:

jgbwsqarrs6a.png

(The transparency is fine, the screenshot was just a little late as it started to fade out, it's the glow behind that is broken)

Definitely did not look like this before the patch. Note that this is an HDR monitor (Alienware AW3225QF)

Edit: also seeing similar texture crushing in other parts of the UI:

(note the clear stair-stepping in the black on the right side)

Edit:

This is because HDR feature is still broken since PTS. If you disable it the game will run ok.

Yeah, but it isn't listed in the patch notes as a known issue, nor has been acknowledged by the devs, so; thread.

it seems as though HDR is just broken in general. Looks like either deal with bad HDR buggyness(the UI isn't the only issue, the filter itself is just... not right at the moment. ) or turn it off unfortunately.

    Hi,

it seems too there are no text shadows in menues without an dark background.

There is a white color instead where the normal darker text shadow should be. (not so good to see at the screenshot)

    y8w5atln0amk.png

For me it looks like, the normal scene-HDR working so far, but not the HDR on UI

Hey all, we are looking into this, and also adding a patch note/known issue.

Could you try adjusting your HDR calibration settings in the game, especially the HDR UI settings? It's possible that having the HDR UI brightness set too high or the HDR UI contrast too low, could cause this.

    Hi Jessica,

Yes, I have experimented with that. However, it does not change the fundamental issue.
When I modify the UI HDR setting, I observe the same behavior as before the patch. The text remains as described above (without text shadow).

    Best regards :)

    Hi Jess,

Yes, I tried numerous adjustments to the HDR settings and while it's possible to make it a little less noticeable it is still very broken.
Currently, both HDR UI brightness and HDR UI contrast are near the middle of the range and the issue is still visible. Note that the initial screenshots I had taken were with settings that were exactly the same as pre-patch and did not have this issue.

I also would like to chime in, the HDR is still broken no matter what calibration settings you choose.

Thank you, @Arizona, @acastanza_ESO, and @Faltasë. We appreciate you trying, and thank you for the "before and after" adjusting the settings. We're continuing to investigate this, and will let you all know if we need any additional information.

We just did Black Gem and one person in our group was playing with HDR enabled.
He wasn't quite able to see the save zone on the last boss with HDR on. Only after turning it off in the game and in windows it worked. Might be the same issue.

Thank you all. We have an internal repro of this as well and after trying a few things, we do have a bug in for this and are continuing investigations.

Just to note, this also affects the Gamepad UI on PC.

The chat text on "small" is almost unreadable with HDR enabled.

I have the same problem. The interface has been unreadable since this update, and it's also affecting the addons' interface.

I don't know what was changed, but I had to disable HDR and I must admit the game looks really dull now...

If you scroll down to the bottom of my edits in the original post there are some adjustments that are okay enough to be playable.

Here are the values from my "final" settings from the UserSettings.txt file if you'd rather edit the params that way:

    SET HDR_UI_CONTRAST "1.10000000"
    SET HDR_SCENE_CONTRAST "1.60000000"
    SET HDR_UI_BRIGHTNESS "1.00000000"
    SET HDR_SCENE_BRIGHTNESS "1.15000000"
    SET HDR_PEAK_BRIGHTNESS "750.00000000"

While the issue is still definitely present, these settings, at least on my monitor, are a reasonable compromise that lets me keep HDR mode on without the UI issues becoming too distracting.

    Cool, so it wasn’t me.

Same issues and lots of artefacts in menu’s too.

I hope such a major issue gets hotfixed soon and that we don’t have to wait until the next big patch in October. With all the many maintenance downtime each week, that doesn’t seem like a big ask…

I am having the same issues too, seems like this should have been discovered before launch.

I tried your settings even though I knew it wouldn't solve anything...
The image is too dark for my screen (I have a 4K OLED) and the interface is disgusting just like with my own settings.
I disabled HDR but I'll wait for ZoS to fix this bug and play something else in the meantime...

Just wanted to chime in from an XBox perspective now that we have the same version as PC: I can tell the precise moment when the game loads in my video settings on launch by the drastic reduction in bloom around the ESO ouroboros on the splash as the game changes from the initial default settings. (This is on a large screen 4k TV.) It's very noticeable!
