Subclassing Quest Bugged?

XB NA, I can't get this quest to complete either. Stupid quest.

@ZOS_Kevin I still have multiple characters where the quest is bugged. It seems the fix only fixed new characters from encountering the bug, but all of my characters that weren't able to turn in the quest are still unable to do so and thus unable to access the Subclassing menu without going to the quest giver or using the third menu at the altar.

This also means I need to pay extra gold when respeccing, as I can't respec everything in one menu (the main "Skills" menu) and instead have to pay the fee to reset my skill lines first then pay another fee to reset skills themselves.

I've got this bug on one of my toons, too. Th first one I did subclassing on worked fine, but the 2nd got stuck like this. Subclassing to different skills again doesn't fix it, and the 2nd toon was not using any skills the 1st used.

One of my guys is stuck now also. I chose a skill line and confirmed, it's equipped and advancing, but the quest will not complete. When I click on the NPC shes just asking for 1,500g. At this step on my other characters the quest completed. It won't on my Necromancer.

I have done it on my main (templar), main tank (dk), main healer (warden), main dps (arc), necro tank on PS NA, and my main (dk tank) on EU and now my stamarc on PS EU is stuck

Tried to subclass assasination and dawn's wrath like I did on NA and only getting "subclass a new skill line"
Edit: tried equipping grave lord to see if that fixed it and now out 3000 gold and still can't advance

I can confirm that this bug is still present. I have seen on the forum that there was a patch that supposedly fixed it, but it does not seem to be fixed. I am stuck on the stage of 'Subclass a New Skill Line' and no matter what I do, I cannot seem to get the quest to progress.

My two characters (PC NA and XBox NA) are still stuck being unable to complete the quest, despite being able to use and level up their new subclass, require a 1500 Gold payment to try again (with no guarantee that it will work). The quest, and associated tool tips, do not recognize that I already did the step that it is asking me to do. I am able to use the subclass, despite being told that I cannot.

The "solution" is apparently to pay 1500 Gold (non-refundable) to subclass into something else, pray that the quest completes to get the reset scroll, then use the reset scroll (non-refundable) to set the classes back to what they would have been if the quest worked as intended.

Honestly, if a character logs in and they have a subclass with skills slotted and that quest is marked as never having been completed, they should just mark it completed. If it is in the quest log, it should be removed at that time.

That they did not test this quest adequately, or they did and production staff didn't prioritize fixing a quest that cannot be abandoned before launch, is

I'm gonna flog this dead horse until I can't type anymore. MAKE THE QUEST ABLE TO BE ABANDONED. And learn what due diligence is before releases.

Honestly, I doubt that the bug will be fully "fixed" until the player can abandon the quest. Then, when it breaks, at least the player can do an action that will correct it. Another fix ZOS might consider is bumping the max allowed number of quests from 25 to 26. They can repeat that for each quest they add that cannot be abandoned.

I've completed this quest multiple times on characters on more than one account, but I've just encountered this bug on one of my toons on PC-NA. The quest giver skipped the quest completion dialog that she usually gives you after you select a new skill line, and went straight to asking me for gold to choose new subclassing lines. But the quest still wants me to "Subclass a New Skill Line." Amusingly, it shows that I have completed the "Equip a New Skill Line" step. I have relogged, restarted game, tried alternative subclassing lines (which cost gold each time even though the quest won't complete), and have disabled addons. I agree that until the quest can be abandoned and started over, this bug is probably going to stick around.

(EDIT: Also, now it seems I'm stuck with one of the alternative subclassing lines that I tried using to reset the quest. I can't get rid of it either through the Armory or through the dialogue. Fun times.)

I'm having this too on 3 of my character. Have tried to subclass again on classes I havent touched yet but it still doesnt work. I thought it might be becouse I was asking about one type of classes but subclassed into another one?

Seems like par for the course now that no one acknowledges errors, and just expect it to pass like water under the bridge until something else pops up to catch our attention. Unfortunately, since it seems nothing can be released without an error or outrage, attention doesn't move on, the list of grievances simply grows. Lots of dropped balls lately. And that "improved communications" seems to have gone by the wayside just as the "year of polish" came and went with no polish in sight.

Can yall fix this please? My Necromancer is still stuck. I have the chosen skill line equipped and advancing but the quest will NOT complete. All she does is ask for 1500g to choose another and Subclassing is grayed out in my skill listing.

After weeks of being stuck on "Subclass a new skill line", I found a fix completely by accident: I went to the armory station and saved my build as a new build. Once I did that, I went back to the quest giver and then I was able to pick a subclass (even the little icon besides the subclass name showed up this time), hit square to confirm, and that helped me progress my quest.

@ZOS_Kevin Can we get an update on this? The quest is still broken for the majority of my characters and it means that I have to spend extra gold when respeccing since I can't respec my skill lines from the universal respec menu.

!@#@#@!@$#@#$# Got hit with this bug on my Sorc.

Can't abandoned it and it takes up a quest slot limit, causing other issues in the long run.

Subclassing is also greyed out on the Character Skill window.

Update: Turn out you have to subclass a skill line that has never been subclass on any other characters nor has been level up to 50. This means if you have 7 different class characters with all class skill levels at 50, you can NOT complete this quest.

I have a new character who I just put subclassing on and this quest STILL won't complete so now this character is stuck like my other one. At this point it's absurd it's still happening.

I had this bug when the update got released and I fixed it.

Problem (i presume) : I had the achievement "reach level 50" with an arcanist in my achievement list but i deleted that character some time before the update.

Solution : I leveled another arcanist and reached level 50 with all 3 skill lines (the arcanist didn't reach level 50 yet) but it unlocked one of the newly added achievement that came with subclassing. The name of those achievements are on UESP : look for Class Master of the Second Era

After that, I have been able to complete the quest.

I don't know if it is required to get the Class Master of the Second Era achievement to complete the quest or if it is because I there is a bug between "reach level 50" achievement and Class Master...

I'll tag Kevin in case they are still looking for a solution @ZOS_Kevin

So to finish the quest Subclass a new skill line I need to level that skill line to 50?

After reading this thread, here is an image that will hopefully help everyone else who is stuck and help ZOS address the issue.

When you access the Subclassing menu through Bahtra at-Hunding, you will see icons to the left of the class skills, either as a plus sign, or this arrow shaped emblem. When hovering over the plus sign, it will say "Equip" - this is because you have another character that already has that skill line maxed at 50. What you need to complete the quest, is the arrow symbol that says "Subclass" - a skill line that has NOT hit 50 on ANY of your characters.

"Equip" does not register the next step in this quest, only "Subclass". @ZOS_Kevin

I'm guessing accounts that are already level 50 in every class skill will be unable to complete this quest until a proper fix is issued.

As @girlpoison claims, that is indeed the fix here, however it's a tad less obvious on Console,

You have to pay attention to the button action prompts at the bottom of the screen. 'A' will switch between "Equip" and "Subclass" depending on the Skill Line. Only the ones that say Subclass will progress the Quest, but then as far as I can tell once you make the choice, the Subclassed selection is locked in. I have no desire to Subclass Warden on my Sorcerer, I just needed the Quest completed and I chose the first one I found that worked.

Obviously, they need to come up with a way to do this that isn't associated with a quest. They need to cut their losses and just give it up. Give it to all level 50 characters, with no other conditions, and deep-six that quest entirely.

The quest is just broken. Period. The work around is to ignore the quest until they fix it.

In the example below, I cannot be leveling up the Nightblade Assassination skill line on a Sorcerer character that does not have subclassing. The simple fix is that when this happens: just complete the quest for the player. Going back to the quest giver just starts the process over again, at a cost of 1500 gold, and probably requires a second subclass skill line. I am not sure if that will clear the quest, or just perpetuate the problem. I don't have a character that I want to try this on.

Zenimax has made it clear they have zero intentions of fixing it. Even the help article says to just pick a skill you haven't mastered.

Oh, what's that? You want the Class Master of the Second Era achievement? Sure! All it will cost you is being unable to subclass on any future characters without a permanantly unfinishable quest.
