Subclassing has thrown away years of attempted class balance. There are very powerful skills in each class that should not be allowed to be used together. I speak of skills with delays such as Blast Bones, Deep Fissure, and Merciless Resolve and its morphs, even though it is not a delayed skill. There are reasons why these skills were the most powerful skills in their classes pre-subclassing. There were no other spammable skills that could be paired with the ones I mentioned, and that made them balanced. We now have a system that allows us to do just that, because why would anyone want to use any other skills? The top three skills lines are Animal Companions, Assassination, and Storm Calling. It is not a coincidence that these skill lines contain the skills I mentioned before, with Storm Calling containing an extremely good passive - Amplitude. This is the perfect combination that allows people to hit others with the strongest skills, and to hit them even harder with passives of this sort.
I'm calling for a shift in power, not a nerf. These skills lines are too good and too focused on damage. Their passives complement them all too well. Yes, these are supposed to be damage skill lines, but subclassing allows for exploitation. This puts pure classes at a severe disadvantage because subclassers are borrowing powerful abilities that their classes were never intended to have access to. It is crucial for the sake of the game that we fix this now, rather than later. Cyrodiil campaigns are dead. They were thriving before subclassing dropped, which is something we hadn't seen in years due to bad performance.
One way to balance subclassing is to move around some skills and passives to weaker skill lines. This will give players more incentive to use those less desired lines without giving them the benefit of excess damage from passives. This will not affect pure classes. On the contrary, it will give them an upper hand because they will have access to all skills and passives. Another way we can balance the system is to only allow certain passives to activate when the player is part of that class, completely hamstringing skill line borrowers. This should work out well because subclassers are already superpowered by burst abilities, and this change will affect their damage multipliers, sustain, and survivability, which is something we desperately need.
Subclassers currently have too much damage potential and survivability by using skill lines like Storm Calling which has Armor, Snare removal, escape skills, AND an insane damage passive that does NOT belong there.
The skills themselves do not need adjustments. It is their placement that need to be looked at so that we have a healthier spread of damage and support skills for all classes. We can no longer toss all damage skills and passives onto a single skill line.
