Longstanding issue of homogenization

Bringing everything to a standard is an easy way to balance but "standardization" has long gotten out of hand and has been taken to the extreme effectively not making skills or skill lines perform at an equal level but making them the same one thing. Many skills suffered this fate through the years and lost much of their unique flavour. Now ultimate generation passives suffer the same fate this time in the name of subclassing(multiclassing). It might not seem like much but it makes the game feel ever so bland. Diversity and flavour have been peeled bit by bit by standardization, hybridization and now subclassing.

The fact that this change is just the first step is extremely disturbing. I'm certain that many players myself included would love to see balancing taken care of in a manner that incentivizes diversity of feel and playstyles rather than the other way around.

I strongly encourage players to be vocal on this subject, the game can't take much more of this treatment.

    Definitely not the first step, but one none the less. The team only having one vision for how to play is like saying every sports car is the same. Some people like Porsches that are balanced all around. Some people like muscle cars that turn like boats, but hit power in a straight line. People buy these different types of cars because they enjoy the styles.

    I gave an example in another thread. Where Darkdeal used to give flat resources making a completely different playstyle of sustain. When Warden netch got released zos started moving all the classes to have the generic standard return over time concept of sustain.

    Dizzy swing is another one of my favorites. Some people preferred the unique longer cast version of the skill because it was hard to use and had a rewarded payoff. Zos gutted it in favor of making another standard generic spammable no different than surprise attack, except worse. A completely different type of gameplay removed.

    All this homogenization and they still refuse to hybridize Minor Brutality/Sorcery and Minor Savagery/Prophecy.
