Let us turn off Grass in Houses separately

I really want to turn off grass in my houses to make it easier to put objects in the grassy areas without grass sticking up through them, but to do this we have to turn off grass everywhere. Also, others visiting our houses still see the tall grass if they don't have it turned off for their client.

Please make the grass in houses separate from the grass in the world, and part of the house settings rather than clientside.

Consider the other way as well: Let us add grass shaders or any ground shaders if we want to change ground textures or add grass anywhere!

In the dimension system in Rift they had items that cleared a certain radius around the object of small plants, so grass etc, Groundrazer Mushroom I think it was called.
Something similar would be great, perhaps with varying sizes if you only want to clear a small area or want to clear a massive area without using lots of items.

Or maybe put very short grass so we can fill in with our own plants or structures as we wish. I didn't know why the grasses have to be so tall.

Yes, please. In one of my last builds (I was making a small bank building in a village) I had to put a big vault to cover the grass waving at the visitors through the floor.

At this point I have given up waiting for 1:- The ability to do this and 2:- Patches of short grass or proper patches of dirt!!

When I saw the new patch of grass "Grass, Beach Cluster" available at Solstice Home Goods Furnisher, I was really excited, I thought we had finally got some useable patches of grass BUT oh no ofc not, they are badly coloured, weirdly spaced out and exceeding tall!! :(

I now routinely use "false" floors and build on those instead, I also regularly build my own planters, which again are high enough to hide the original planting within the house that cannot be removed.

Luckily there are now some structural items that cover huge areas and are fairly easy to align with each other and also more options for dirt within planters. :)

It has to be said it is still annoying to waste precious spaces on hiding in game designed areas within houses though!

I'd love this. I've spent a lot of time, effort and gold on trying to find ways to make paved spaces look like grass, and I can hide the paving easily enough, sometimes make it look like the ground is covered with plants, but it almost never blends in with the surrounding grass. I'd love to be able to change the ground shader to match the grass and soil around it.

It depends on what kind of grass :D

The new "Grass, Beach Cluster" @ 250g each might actually help you @Danikat .....

I did put quite a few down and for me it's a bit of a wishywashy colour, could definitely be a bit greener but it does cover paving quite well. :)

Edit:- to add if you try and make it shorter coverage is not as good :)

Edit 2:- It's actually taller than me.....

Eh, I’d rather dev time be spent fixing all of the bugs introduced with U46! But if it can be done coinciding with that, then sure! Not a housing person really myself though, but I can definitely see how this could be annoying!!

sorry I can not agree with it, grass was meant to be there, it is the developers vision for grass to be there and you cannot alter this or else you lose the fundamental character of the house. the house would not be the same without it, and I support the dev vision 100%

But grass can be removed. There is an option in Video for Off, Low, Medium, High, or Ultra.

The problem is that whatever setting is chosen alters the grass level both inside the house and outside in the world. But it only alters it for the player, and anyone coming to our houses will see the grass level they have set on their client, not what we have set for our houses.

They need to have the grass levels separate for houses and the world. And they need to have the grass level in the houses be dependent on how it is set by the player for inside the house so everyone sees the same thing when they visit.

Must be nice to have all those settings. I don’t think any of them are on console, at least not on PS.

I would love to be able to remove it in certain areas, including boulders or other preset structures.
However, I believe the engine of the game can't do that. What could be done is to transform some of this grass into items.
This could be done easier in the case of structures.

For example, I am decorating the Sword-saint Redoubt. I would like to remove the canopy that protects the hole to the underground area. I would also like to clear some grass/sand from the plateau on the side. A second example: in the Haven of the Five Companions, honestly, there are to many unnecessary boulders on the sides. I would like to be able to remove them. I want to build something else there, and they are in the way.

In my opinion there is to much effort put in flashy cosmetics which have became quite similar (silly polymorphs, glowing mounts and copy outfit styles), while the housing system gets minimal updates. I am not ignoring the vault, but the vault won't make storage houses disappear entirely. I am talking about filling the gaps of the older furnishing styles, now that the devs moved from the calendar style release, to match the more recent and far diverse furnishing styles such as Colovian or Apocrypha. The crown crates make money for ZOS. True. But lots of people would pay upgrades to their home as well, like 100 extra slots, or 10 more slots for pets or guests. Tell me you wouldn't!

The ability to turn off grass / patches of grass would be awesome.

I would actually like to go a little further. I’d like to see some spaces with optional features, e.g. grass, paved, water pool. This could be built into the UI.

Take the last event house for example, near Riften. If that square in front of the house had come with a pool or water feature instead of patchy grass and uneven dirt, it would have been 100x better. I found it impossible to add a fountain furnishing because of the grass.

I was able to add a fountain to that area by shrinking a Shrine to Dibella into the ground so that only the top portion showed. Then I placed an Imperial fountain on top of it. The best part is the top of the Shrine matches the walls enclosing the grassy areas to the right and left of the entrance exactly.
