In Game Chapter Purchase?

So we have another friend that has come to play with us on ESO, they had the Imperial Edition from years ago and never played it that much, due to not getting to grips with it! but decided to give it another try and come play with us. Since we have all been helping him along he is really enjoying it now. But still does not help with Games are over his Budget (life and family is expensive these days)

We wanted him to come along to the dungeons etc with us, So when most of our group started playing it was with High Isle, they bought the game and got all of the previous bits with it, GOOD DEAL!! since I have had to buy every one from the start, for me its a VERY GOOD DEAL they got!

So the thought had come to me that if I bought him the Gold Road Chapter , he would only be the one chapter behind us, and it would be really good for him. Unfortunately it appears that the ESO Store only Gives that ONE chapter for 3500 crowns, Another of us wanted him to get the scrying, So that was another 3500 crowns, then to get into Black Rose Prison was yet another 1500 Crowns. and they still do not have Summerset for the jewellery.. We do not mind buying them the bits to enhance their gameplay, but we are at 8500 Crowns So Far and Rising! (ballpark £46 so we have basically bought the 2025 Chapter Upgrade already). REALLY EXPENSIVE, and really not a good value for money!!

So now we have a dilemma, One of the reasons that I started off with 2 accounts was I got into the game, and found that there was an UPGRADE available in the local game store £39.99 for the upgrade or £9.99 for the full game. it was a no brainer , £9.99 worked, but I could not upgrade the account and had to start all over again!

So looking around the internet , i can get them the NECROM upgrade , that does come with ALL of the other previous Chapters for between £11 and £34, basically the same or a lot less than 3500 Crowns Per chapter. and there is still 6 to buy form crowns !!!

So if I buy them the Necrom Upgrade , is it going to Work? as they now have the Greymore chapter, or are they going to have to start it All over again like i had to??

LMAO, not trying to get anything for free here, we have already been buying, but simply wanting to help out a friend who financially cannot afford to buy games!!

The easiest way to do this would be to buy them a store gift card so they can make the purchase themselves. That way there's absolutely no questions, as the transaction will be on their account. As long as the new content is registered on the the same account, it won't wipe out their progress.

I had physically went into a store and purchased the base game, and the Next update (full version) it could NOT go onto my account, as only UPGRADES are permitted once you have an account!

So a STORE GIFT CARD, might / could / would / Possibly put them in the exact same position, that's what I am trying to get the advice to avoid here !!

Plus We are all in Different Countries , and the only "STORE GIFT CARD" i can think of that might be possible would be Amazon. which would actually cost more than simply buying a code online.

but thanks for the time you took to reply

Sorry - guess I wasn;t clear enough that I meant platform store.

What platform are you all playing on? Steam has gifting and Steam Cards; XBox store likewise, and I'm sure PS has something similar. These also work fully on-line - all you need to know is the recipient's tag/id. Your friend could use it to buy the crowns needed to get the relevant update or package (note that you can get prior content individually or in packages).

He is playing on Zenimax / Bethesda itself , So there is no Store unless you buy the items "complete"

So If we Gift the crowns to buy everything , its about 49,000 Crowns. or £250
if we buy a Necrom Collection Upgrade Key its ball park MAX £34 saving £214
or we can buy the Solstice Upgrade at £46 and Save £204

But since we have now Bought 3 Chapters for him, does the Upgrade Still work, or do we end up paying £324 for Simply Necrom on its own and still have to buy all of the rest????

even paying £76 for the Full 2025 Chapter and making him start all over again, is going to save us £174

we are trying to be friendly and nice, but we cannot simply afford to drop a couple of hundred ourselves!!

with what we have already bought in 3 Chapters ion the eso Store , we could have got the full 2025 upgrade which includes everything!!! thats the point, lmao we are not made of money lol

You could reach out to customer support for clarification. My understanding, though, is that your friend could link their ESO account to their Steam ID; that way, purchases/gifts of Crowns or updates through Steam should be validated for use on their ESO account? They'd likely need to add and launch the game through Steam, but that shouldn't be a problem?

Steam and Epic are separate as far as I know, and they only Sell items for their own "version of the game" , So you would have to buy the whole game again via Steam / Epic. Possibly that's changed, but the 14 copies of the game I have bought for Self / Family on those platforms are completely separate. the only accepted "Override" is buying direct from the ESO Store, which attaches direct to your account.

Hence Buying a Key is loaded into your ESO Account, and not via the Game Stores.

The reason for this is that ESO plus includes "free" crowns, but they don't want subscribers using those crowns to buy the latest DLC as that would defeat the point of not having the latest DLC included in ESO plus. It is a very confusing and anti-consumer model.

You can 100% buy the "Collection" (not the upgrade) and apply it to an existing account. I've done it for people. That comes with previous Chapters, but not DLC/dungeons. The Upgrades don't come with previous content.

The only other way to save money here is to pay people gold to gift him the DLC/previous Chapters from the in-game store. I don't know what the conversion is like on your platform. Otherwise, just wait for a Crown sale.

Some people also get ESO+ for long enough that the 1600 monthly Crowns add up to what they want. Unless there's a gifting method through Steam, he'd have to be given money for his own sub.

Yes , this is not Fun!!

IN 10 Years I have missed ONE Chapter, Blackwood, I have bought every year the Deluxe Upgrade, Yet I still have to buy the Blackwood one for myself...
Yet everyone who i bought the High Isle / Necrom / Gold Road chapters got everything. Rather unfair that buying Every Chapter bar one, means that's the "UPGARDE" I myself have to buy, kind of explains why they are all there for sale, let you get the ones you missed!

On My alt account I keep sending it Gifts of DLC's / Upgrades, and over the years its now a more full version of the game than I own out with ESO+

And it would Appear that although there are "COLLECTIONS" out there for very reasonable amounts, they are All full versions, NOT UPGRADES.

Which would put him in the exact same spot i was in, I can have everything but only as a new account!

If reading the ESO Store is correct, If i were to buy him the 2025 Chapter Upgrade, then that would be Solstice only, nothing prior to that, Buying them the full Chapter 2025 then they get everything , once more a new account is needed .

There really should be a way of Buying the Full collection and having the contents applied to your current ESO Account.

LMAO so a Few Steps Forward , then even more back , So much for welcoming back an original player! as long as your happy with the beginning and the end, you really do not need the middle

If many chapters are missing it is cheaper to buy full collection than upgrades.
Not sure about other versions, but you can buy steam full version and link it with existing direct account. I did so when it became impossible to buy chapters directly for my country. Just needed to link instead of creating new account. Now I get new chapters in steam, but still use zos launcher to play (like it more).
Before that I bought physical collector's editions (Morrowind, Summerset, Greymoor) and it was full game each. They absolutely ok applied to already existing account.
Are you sure collection needs new account?

Not tried via the steam link idea, but yes from experience that's what i had to do personally in the past, i had contacted Support way back then and they said that once you had the account only upgrades could be put on, otherwise it was a new account.

Hence trying top find a way for him to retain what hes got, lol, or it puts him in the same position as the game he left to come her (and i had convinced him this was a better game, so my fault)
