Idea to combat Power Creep with subclassing

SundarahFr3akinrican
So with the way power creep has been, a lot of ESOs content has been getting easier for top end players, and now with the addition of subclassing, that will be even more of the case. For example, I just watched a video of a top tier player completing Vet Hardmode March of Sacrifices entirely solo. For me personally, I think that things like that are fun, people thinking of ways to be as strong as possible and the power fantasy of being that strong and knowing that you can achieve that appeals to myself and some players.

Instead of nerfing everything (which often just rubs people the wrong way), what if ZOS just leaned into it? By that I mean, what if they added achievements, like titles and a scoreboards for people that completed Vet content Trio/Duo/Solo. They would add hundreds of hours of gameplay to the game for top tier players, without actually having to create much of anything. Just leaderboards and titles. They could add more rewards, but I think locking rewards behind feats this difficult could rub a lot of the more casual players the wrong way, so it'd have to be handled with care.

    You’re on the right track.

They should learn into it, but instead of nerfing just buff all the garbage skill lines and rework them to be competitive with skill lines that are actually good.

If everything is op, than nothing is op and the game is fun

If you nerf everything into oblivion, than nothing is op and the game isn’t fun

I agree. A issue no One talks about is those endgame players selling achievement runs to others players for gold Etc.

I remember some years ago some One wanted 220million gold to carry someone for godslayer.

Those players might BE worried about powercreep also due to that. because they lose gold.

Staying on point, i think subclassing needs a rework but its a good addition to the game.

Pvp Will get vengeance One day.

Engame pvers Can easily carry players etc.

New content Will still BE hard regardless.

Idk why endgame players are complaining só much. If they want game to Stay hard for them. They can just... Not Run meta best skills? Lol

    uhuh

    Archeage used that philosophy

Have you ever played a MMO that had to have a " Fresh Sart " - as in Begin all character from scratch - because they kept increasing the firepower, but made top gear achievable only to the elite players who play multiple hours every single day. The gap became large enough when initially the top gear score you could get was 12k. Most players were only at around 7k. And Literally, in PvP , could not do ANY damage to a 12k GS.

So the Fresh Start, added new gear and top GS went to 15k. They leaned into making it a high gear score competition. The Fresh Start with lotsa players, in 3 months its a desert as top GS dominates all.

And they Fresh Start again added new rules, new gear, now you could hit 18k Again it begins with players , in 3 months its a desert.

If you REEEEEALLY want to kill a game, you make it so the Average/Casual player absolutely cannot compete against the dedicated hardcore player in PvP.

    :#

PS I have played a number of MMOs. I have Never seen any other game shut down, and completely restart without any major changes. Because population dropped, Archeage restarted 5 or 6 times over the approx 10 year run they had. 3 game companies had their opportunities to make it a great game, and all failed.

I think ESO Devs should go back to leaning into power creep rather than the 'horizontal progression only' philosophy they embraced with U35.

I personally am fine with the idea of 'number go up' with every patch.

yah, or new mythic trial...(increased difficulty)

I still think they should balance things but I think implementing my post will add a lot of end game content with not much effort on their end. And it would be fun to make builds that can do those extreme challenges that are meant for group play.

Being able to solo march of sacrifices isn't because of subclassing though. When Oakensoul came out there were enough YouTube videos of people soloing DLC dungeons and I'm sure even before that. Maybe Subclassing will allow more people to do this? Is that a bad thing?

Yeah I think it will def enable more people to do it. So might as well make it content in my opinion.

ZOS will not buff 90% of the stuff that is at the bottom, they will just nerf the 10% that is at the top. How many sets do we have in-game? how many are actually used? How many ''combinations'' Scribing added? How many are actually used?

Judging from past actions done by ZOS I think we all know how this will turn out, even more so when the power creep is noticeably higher this time.

From what I've seen, the power creep is 100% intentional and for "accessibility" reasons. The problem is that ZOS doesn't seem to fully understand accessibility. They treat accessibility as if it means everything should get easier, which is actually kind of a condescending way to handle it. Accessibility is really about getting players in through the door to begin with and that can be done in many ways that have nothing to do with difficulty. Ironically, subclassing worsens accessibility issues.

Anyway, they could add achievements like that, but I'm not sure it aligns with their current "accessibility" goals that constantly miss the mark.
