The reason people ask for alphabetical order is that the writ specifies only the name of the style. If they gave the number of the style, and that showed in the interface, it would be the preferred choice.
Alphabetical is a problem, as style names change with language. Numbers don't.

The stations have a text search line on the PC (so you can easily select sets). Does the UI on console not have this feature? No way provided to input text with a controller?

If (like my favourite guild house which has all the tables laid out in a grid) the sets could be viewed in alphabetical order it would make precrafting (is there any other way?) tens of writs so much easier and I might even consider buying one myself.
Console have 2 weeks to go until U46 launches and I have hundreds of writs set aside/ clogging up inventory space to level up skill lines. It would make life so much easier for us if sets were easy to find on the GM stations.

I don’t think so. The only times I have used them is for master writs, which of course put arrows next to the category in which the set resides, like Alliance or PVP. If you were just crafting a set for an alt it would not do that.

There is an item set search filter for consoles within the Grand Master Tables UI.

That only works for Craftable Sets on PC (and I assume for consoles as well), not Style Materials.
