My critiques on Chaosball

SundarahFr3akinrican
I think chaos ball has potential to be a fun game but I have some critiques:

1. I swear that at least 50% (and it feels like way more) of my games are Chaos Ball. My friends agree too. We see way less, TDM, CTR, Domination, Crazy King. Is ZOS sure that there is an even rotation of games?

2. People need to be more incentivized to grab the ball. The direction with the transformations was good, but more often then not, you just die as soon as someone sees you. If feels good when you have a good healer and you can brawl for a bit in the transformations, but if that's not the case, you just get focused down to quickly. There needs to be a bit more self healing in the kits of the transformations. Maybe they can start recording data on the ball holding duration metric and try to get that average higher. No one wants to grab a ball when they know they will just die without getting many points on the board. This causes Chaos Ball to drag out for way longer than it should cuz no one grabs the ball.

3. The balls should tick for more points. Chaos ball games tend to be too long with no strategy really. Everyone is just TDMing. Maybe if point 2 is addressed, this issue will fix itself, but worth mentioning.

Agreed, the transformations suck when you are in a PUG Chaosball. Usually die a LOT faster than just playing your toon. It would be better if the actual skill icons said what they are, I have not played a werewolf so have no idea what the skills do. I play vamp on many toons so it's not so bad but still not great.

This game mode is fundamentally flawed and whichever team has more cross healing will almost always win.

Most people just TDM bcs it’s so easy to chain kill the ball holders and stall the game till time runs out.

There is no strategy for chaos ball other than having a good healer or just tons of cross healing, build like a tank, hold block and let people heal you and you’ll win 9/10 chaos ball matches

I think the reason for that is that the population isn't high enough to support individual queues without having them taking forever.

Yeah it definitely needs work. That's why I think building more self healing into the kits of the transformations would help teams that don't have a healer. But it could have the inverse effect as well and make the healer team even more healy.

It would be nice if they started adding comeback mechanics to bgs, to help a little bit with the complete stomp games.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Exactly, and I see that throughout my Chaos Ball experiences. People make their builds for BGs to play their builds, so if they have to give that up, it should really be worth it.

I have personally had instances where it was fun in the transformations, but only if I had an adequate healer. So i think there is a way to make them fun, but you have too feel powerful in them. You have to be incentivized to grab that transformation. Not actively avoiding it.

Yeah the health starts ticking so fast that you dont have the time to stop and read the abilities.

The vampire has an ability that stops all other healing besides your own, which i know kills a lot of people that dont realize theyve used it. The heal is also the drain health from the vamp skill line, so it only heals a percentage of your missing health. So it wont heal you to full ever.

The werewold has a heal that only heals if you do damage to people, and then its on a long cooldown. So there is no way to sustain on your own.

They did hit their mark on making them powerful enough. They need to be strong enough for people to want to grab them.

There should also be somewhere in game where you can look at these skills. So you have time to digest them.
