Not anymore.

That was changed a few patches back. Now all master writs give max XP.

Alchemy is good for power levelling new chars and their skill lines. Since you only need to grind the Alchemy craft line and that is about it.

Subclassing system is account wide so you can use your master crafter character to make Woodworking, Blacksmithing and Clothing writs and grind the skill lines for subclassing. No need to burn through Alchemy materials or buy Alchemy writs. Generally Alchemy writs are much expensive then the regular equipment writs.

Alchemy Writs are cheaper in materials to complete on average, thus cost more gold.

The most expensive writs to finish in terms of materials are the cheapest to buy in Gold. That's why Jewelry Writs dominate the low ends of the searches - the material value to voucher ratio is seen as not worth it even when you consider the EXP.

All the 40 Voucher Provisioning Writs use atleast x2 Roe which is expensive and hard to justify. The Enchant ones mostly use Prismatic Glyphs which are also expensive and much rarer. You'll get the worst return of Gold/Materials:Writ ratio doing these (alongside jewelry).

The only time Provision and Enchanting is actually worth the material cost for the EXP is when you do the 2 Voucher ones that don't use any rare materials. But atleast on PC NA, you will not usually find those reasonably priced or en masse in traders. All you will find is 40 voucher writs asking for Orzorga's/Psygics and requiring x2 Roe, etc.

Yeah I get that. I'm just sayin that they're not overlooked, so much as they're just cost prohibitive when alch writs run much much cheaper because they're so much more abundant.

Can anyone tell with precision how many master writs need to be completed to take a subclassing skill from 1 to 50?
Possibly with the condition being only +150% from a scroll and nothing else, since at console launch there won't be any XP event running...

So should be 2.919.876 XP points for a subclassed skill line from 1 to 50.

I'm not sure how many XP points master writs exactly give and how the 150% bonus applies: it always seemed to me that it gave me less than what I would expect from mobs kills...

(Sure I could use a scroll now and see it myself but I don't want to waste it. I don't have PTS so it would have been nice if anyone knew.
EDIT: also, I am enlightened for 4 millions ATM so I would not know how much XP I gain without it - enlightenment doesn't count for subclassed skills)

With ESO+ and 150% XP scroll/pot each MW gives 43786 XP.

If is a 2XP event (which U46 release Monday should be) then is 60627 XP.

Also with the new green CP node you only need to add 8570% more XP (sorry I royally screwed up the math there).

Also according to this post (which is consistent with my experience) the skill line gains a proportion of the total XP, affected by how many skills of that line you have slotted and in the case of weapon/armor skill lines whether you have a relevant weapon/how many pieces of the relevant type of armor equipped:

In the case of individual skills/morphs is 25% of the total earned XP.

In the case of the skill line itself I am unsure; from that post it would seem that it was 'earning' 37.5% of the total XP with 5 skills slotted (on the active bar) but in all likelihood is 'x% base gained plus y% for each skill slotted'.

It could be 25% base and then 2.5% per skill slotted (inferring that the base is always the same) but that is just one of the possible answers.

Someone better than me at math can probably work out x% and y% in a blink. I'm just not very good at math.

I prefer jewelry writs, but they do require time to train up traits. Most of my alts have all the traits now though.

Yes yes, I currently have 400 writs ready, Mythical Ambrosia + xp event and beautiful slightly over 60k xp for one writ is home.

Take a look at this writ. AwesomeGuildStore says the price is green, which means below average, but it is actually a very bad deal.

Writs give you a flat amount of XP per master writ done, not per voucher earned. So you're paying 13k gold for one XP reward. Also, the materials used to craft this specific writ would run you about 50k gold.

It might reward a lot of vouchers, but at 1.5k gold-to-voucher total, it's just not worth crafting for either vouchers or XP.

Our next example (why hello there, Ninja Squirrels) pops up at the bottom of the list, usually a bad sign. Big red numbers -549%, but this is actually not a bad purchase.

It only gives 2 vouchers, but if you are buying master writs to level XP, this does not matter. What matters is that you're only paying 5.5k gold for one shot of quest XP. Compared to alchemy master writs, this is a huge discount.

Also take a look at the materials required. Only 127 gold of materials will be needed to craft this. It might only give 2 vouchers, but for leveling, this master writ is an absolute steal.

With alchemy writs selling for 7-15k each, finding any craftable writ for 2-5k is a much better deal. Enchanting writs are quite easy for any character to craft. Provisioning is a little trickier, requiring knowledge of a recipe, but your main/crafter should probably know it, so they are fine for CP grinding.

Enchant and provisioning are the easiest.profs to get to 50 on alts - you get the full experience benefit of player-made glyphs if your main makes them for an alternative on the same account, and you can power level provisioning really easily too, j7st uses a bunch of cheap ingredients.

Of the three alchemy is actually the most potentially difficult since there aren't many non- max solvents available unless you farm them.

It's a good technique, but you hit 50 without many skill points and then either have to buy skyshards or run them down.

Adventure zones stories (Fargrave, The Reach, Southern Elsweyr) give really good XP and lots of skill points, and can be done quickly if you don't get distracted by the side quests.
