Anyone else think a research assistant would be amazing?

This would be super cool IMO and something we are missing. I'd 100% drop some dolla bills on this!

Do you mean "assistant, that allows you set some traits to research in the field"?
After 1-2 days of research it is 2-3 items a day, then ~3 items a week.
I think it is not a problem to lock the planned items in your inventory then simply put them on research at the end of the day.
Having an assistant for it... it is a bit overkill, if you ask me.

But you still get XP when Tzozabrar destroys your stuff, so that ship has already sailed.

Would be a worthless investment if you are going to be out of traits to research. Besides, EVERY crafting station in the world (and in your houses) has the option to research traits.

I don't really see a point in that, except of saving a few minutes (like when you are stuck in a quest and a research just finished).

There are several hundred crafting stations in zones and houses. Porting to them is way cheaper than buying an assistant, that gets useless once you have researched everything.

I would have no objection to a research assistant, I personally would have no use for one.

    Quick question to the op....

Are you talking about just starting research when slots become available? Or are you looking for an assistant that can keep record and make items as needed?

I'm just curious about how much assistance you would envisage. 🙂

It's not the sort of thing I'd think of an assistant to do, since I always set my researches when I do my writ dailies as those are in the same place.

What I'd actually like is for Piharri to work like a proper fence instead of being terrible.

Seems like a waste to me to have a whole assistant just for that. The others greatly help with inventory management on the fly. Research would just free up a few slots. And once all traits have been researched, you now have a useless assistant.

Don't they have an addon for that?

I just thought it'd be nice if you wanted to be out on the fly and pop out an assistant and research some stuff, then pop out your deconstructor, etc.

Couple points I've seen that I'd like to give a counter to:

    - The rest are for inventory management: technically yes, but they all serve a different purpose (eg, gaining crafting materials and experience in respective lines, gaining gold, banking stuff to save for later, and a research assistant would be there optionally to further along research progress on your new character or main)
    - There is no addon for an NPC research assistant
    - There are already hundreds of crafting stations: why do we have a deconstruction assistant then if we can just port to a crafting station? Lots of merchants too, so what's the point of a merchant assistant?
    - Roleplaying as "doing your own research": that's great, but I play more like an MMO than really RPing as my character "researching." I'm just unlocking traits for the future man lol

It should be something added to the decon assistant rather than its own thing. It's too limited alone

Deconstructors are useful because it mitigates inventory management. Something that quite often can stand in the way of general gameplaly activities.

Research timers aren't so high priority that losing precious minutes is any kind of big deal. And it wouldn't improve/affect general gameplay activities.

I mean that's fine idc about that, I just ultimately mean being able to research without going into town

Depends on whether you feel $35us for a research assistant constitutes hurt.

I only completed research on one character and now that it's done I have no need for it. I prefer to go to town for things like that anyway, and like to see the towns full of activity with other players around.

I think in this case, the aspect of Immersion isn't really a factor as players don't have to go to town to research. You can do it from the privacy of your own home.

We can, but I don't. I suspect there are others that enjoy an active town, too, and do these things in town for that reason.

Given that we have the framework from other assistants, if it's not hard to code I don't see why not. It'd at least make a cool houseguest at the end. I wouldn't buy it but if people would, it could be an easy enough profit for ZOS.

I couldn’t really care either way, but one thing to remember is that research is finite.

Players will always be picking up things to bank or sell or decon. Players who use the armory assistant use it to go back and forth with some regularity. But once you finish research on your characters, that’s it - you never need to use that tab again.

I imagine that any potential research assistant would have an incredibly low purchase rate since many players either have finished research or are not intending to do so, and ZOS probably also doesn’t want to have to hear “I’m done with research so can I get a refund for my assistant now that he’s functionally useless?”
