First time I went in blind, as the game was new. So I did what I always did: The right/honorable thing. So I saved her.

Then later I found out I missed two skillpoints, and she never had another chance! :sunglasses:

Thwarting the insane will of the mad god? Saving someone I've quested with? I will always save Valaste. 1 single skillpoint is not a make or break choice for me.

Saved Valaste more often. It seems to be the right thing to do given that Sheogorath made her that way and can easily reverse it.

In the end, skill point is irrelevant. I always have some laying around that don't get used.

This is incorrect. The book is making her crazy but her problem was present since she was a child and Sheo is the only one presenting a solution for it.

Exploiting a flaw to take advantage of it to put her in a place that exacerbates the flaw. Puppet master level manipulation.

There are so many skill points in the game that I don't need the extra ones from condemning Valaste.

I don't like helping Sheo, so saving Valaste it is. But the VA behind the character does an excellent job, so I always enjoy *that* aspect of our interactions!

I saved Valaste when I first did the quest 10 years ago. 8 years later when I started a new playthrough, I saved her again because skill points were so easy to obtain with all the new content added to the game. The quest reward is from a era where every skill point mattered. Now the only reason to choose that option is for roleplay or collection purposes.

Even when I first did it years ago I had more than enough skill points by the end, so I didn't feel like I needed more and was more interested in the story.

I do have one character who would sacrifice her, but he also wouldn't join the Mages Guild to begin with. I could figure out a way to make it work, and I created him originally to make choices my other characters wouldn't, but I don't think it makes enough difference that it's worth doing.

For the 2 others that have completed the quest line I saved Valaste and likely would for most of the others.

I regard this as a win-win choice. My character gets the skill points. Valaste gets to go and find happiness in the Shivering Isles, where she obviously belongs.

"Saving NPC" isn't actually saving the NPC.

Depends on the character. Some of them are just greedy and wanted the "power" Sheogorath offered, some wanted to save Valaste from Sheogorath, and a couple of them thought she'd be happier with Uncle Sheo than she was feeling like an outcast on Nirn. Not once did I make the decision based on whether I did or didn't need the skill points, it was always based on what I thought that character would do in that situation, because the RPG in MMORPG stands for role playing game.

I can't remember, but does the dialogue tell us which option will give us 1 skill point and which will give us 2? It's been so long ago that I don't remember and don't bother with completing the mages skill line anymore.

This response did not answer the question. Does the in game dialogue make it clear which option gives what number of skill points?

I don't remember - I looked the whole quest line up like I do for most stuff I just really have little interest in (which would include the mages, fighters and undaunted guild quests).

Sheogorath mentions that the Folium Discognitum is worth half a dozen skyshards (i.e. 2 skill points). So he does tell us.

But it's either 2 skill points or none as @Elvenheart mentioned.

There is no option for one skill point, so that response DID answer the question.

Since sub-classing is going to make us spend 2 skill points for our sub-classed lines ... I strongly suspect that more and more people will choose the 2 skill points over Valaste!
