What does slotting champion points do?

What does slotting champion points do? I assume it provides additional passive bonuses but I am not see where to tell what those are.

Within each CP tree, you'll notice that hovering over one of the 'stars' will pop up the details. Some of them are always-on; others need to be added to your Champion Bar before they become active. The prompts across the bottom of the screen will let you know how to access that (it's Y on XBox). You can have up to 4 slotted skills for each tree on the bar, so you have to pick and choose which ones you want. You'll also notice that some of the 'stars' are a reddish-purple: those are additional constellations that have additional perks. These also divide between always on and only when slotted.

Some champion points are passives, they work all the time.

Some are only active when they're slotted on the bar. These ones are the slightly shinier ones in the CP trees.

In addition to what the others have stated, just so you're aware, there are some stars you have to unlock before you unlock others. There are also stars disconnected from the skill tree that you can always points in.

Some slots won't give your their ability until you spend enough points. While others will but their efficiency depends on the number of points slotted. Which of these are which is indicated in your tool tip.

If you want to see if something is usable (or usable right away), you can also try to assign points and then take those points back for free so long as you have not yet committed the points. If you do commit your points and then change your mind, there's a small coin fee to reassign them.

Basically, the pale yellow stars are for your passives and eventually you will fill up all of those.

The brighter larger stars are slottables for the champion bar at the top.
