if you have a Arcanist and a nightblade... then use a nightblade class on the arcanist (ie subclass it) - then delete the nightblade character - do you keep the nightblade subclass on the arcanist?

    Assuming this question is genuine.

Then if you are starting with an arcanist character and adding a Nightblade subclass, then deleting the subclass of nightblade will just remove that subclass. The subclass is just one of the class skill lines.

You still keep the original arcanist. It is not merging 2 characters You work with one character and can just change 1 or 2 of the class skill lines to class skill lines of a different class to your character.

I think the question is about deleting a character, not a subclass, considering that in order to unlock a subclass skill lines on one character, you need to develop them on another character first.

youve misinterpreted what i asked. let me try again

character 1 is a main character. it is class "A" and CP 3600
i create charatacter 2. It is class "B" and i level it to level 50 (3600)
i go on to character A and use on of the 3 subclasses to get a skill line from class B (character 2) and put it on character 1
i then get bored of character 2 and delete it.

does this mean then on character A i loose the ability to use skillines from character B/class B
and furthermore if i create character C, can i use skills from character B/class B

but the question is "do you keep the ability to subclass using those skilllines if youve deleted that character"

Yes I completely misunderstood you as all my characters are max level and have probably unlocked most things already so it's not something I have had to consider and I'm not deleting any.
I'm sorry for misunderstanding you, hopefully it at least bumped the thread up.
I would guess once the character knows something it's locked in but that's not enough. Probably best to wait for a ZOS answer as they are the answer holders.

I was thinking you just had to train the skill line on the character adding a different skill line - didn't know a prerequisite was having a character at level 50 with it all unlocked already. I thought it just added the skill line and you train it. I like to figure things out on my own rather than looking it up generally but it can sometimes cause issues and misunderstandings.

I thought about this too. I have neglected my North American toons, just having a few and I realise I don't have one of each of the classes at level 50. I foolishly decided to delete my Dragonknight before he reached level 50 a few months ago, not realising that sub-classing was coming and I would have to start again to use DK skills on one of the three (?!) arcanists I have in North America.

you dont need to have 2 separate characters for subclassing, all of your characters will gain access to every skill line at lvl 0 and all you have to do is re lvl the skill line on the character you wanna use it on.

so for example... if you only have a nightblade and you dont have a warden, you can still use warden skills on your nightblade but you first have to lvl up the skill line to 50 just like you would a weapon skill line

This is not true. Here is a screenshot from my husband's account. He has just one character. He has access to all the class skill lines, they just start at level 1 instead of maxed out.9wgj7s287vlx.png

AND... this is on PTS. They have said there are TWO ways to unlock subclass skill lines- either having a character that is already leveled the class skill lines to 50 -or- utilizing their 'class specialization' or whatever they've called it. However, they DID say that on Live you would have to level every skill line to 50 under 'subclassing' even if you have them at level 50 on other characters. The 'subclassed' skill line progression would be account wide, however. Also, your base class skill lines wouldn't have to be leveled again... but if you use that class on another character, you would have to re-level them as subclassed skill lines. Hope all that makes sense.

In all honesty, it's a bit of a confusing mess. There shouldn't be TWO methods because their explanation doesn't make sense. What is the point of having alt classes leveled to 50 if the progression doesn't carry over to subclassing anyway?

so wait, if ive levelled a ARC and NB to 50, then want to use my NB skills on my arc... i have to relevel?

if thats true, thats a pain in the ****

The way I have understood, yes, absolutely. Once the line unlocks for subclassing, it is unlocked.

You don't technically even have to create the Nightblade character for those skill lines. You can get them with the subclassing system for your Arcanist even without. The downside of getting a subclassed line this way is that you cannot change it until you have levelled it up to 50.

You just get those skill lines automatically if you have a character with all levelled up skill lines and you are not locked into a subclassed skill line until you reach level 50 with that skill line. So there is benefit in having the Nightblade character until you unlock the skill lines.

However, you still need to level up the subclassed skill lines, but this levelling up is account wide. The xp gain on those subclassed lines is halved, I think. So it will be a massive grind. Better prioritise what you level up. But once subclassed skill line is levelled up unlocked, you can use it on any character directly.

edit:And you can use the same line on multiple characters and the levelling of that skill line is shared.

    Stealing my question MJallday 😉🤣

So reading through and continuing to use NB and Arc as examples.

So even if you have both classes levelled, if you subclasses Assassination into your Arc skill lines, you'd still have to level Assassination again even though it's already levelled on the NB character?
And that the XP gain is halved 👀
That is one hell of a grind even with Scrolls on.
So effectively there was no point in getting my NB and Arc characters restored by ZoS CS.

I'm starting to think ZoS haven't fully thought this subclassing through.
