Yes, a huge point of the items being special for collectors is because the drop rate has probably always been bugged and that has made them very rare. There was the Sixth House Banner with the slight animation glitch in Vvardenfall they fixed the drop rate for after many years and a lot of people who collect rare items were disappointed instead of happy.

I’m a very small time collector of interesting things myself, but I have to prioritize and temper my collection endeavors. And a lot of the things I have came to me by accident.

For example, I still have an old cake voucher from Chef Donovan that could be still be used to get an older anniversary cake - until Chef Donovan went on vacation and his Assistant took over. And a while back I finished my collection of every book furnishing that drops from a treasure chest. I ended up with a couple of those Morrowind banners after they upped the drop rate. And my inventories are all full of strange odds and ends from the 10+ years I’ve been playing, like jewelry that can’t be deconstructed, old quest starters, different levels of soul gems before they became universal, and a bunch of other things and it’s fun to come across them and ponder their existence. 🥰

i dont think the increased drop rate is what made collectors (myself included) unhappy, is was how they done it. they upped the droprate so much thats its barely even considerable rare anymore. it drops a LOT more often than any delve specific rare drops which definitelly shouldnt have happend in my eyes. they couldve doubled or even quadrupled the drop rate of the banner, considering how rare it once was. but they probably upped the drop rate by multiple 400. quite a shame imo

I actually saw that happen in another game once: the drop chance was supposed to be increased 150%, but whoever edited the loot table used a factor 150 instead of 1.50. That was one fast hotfix...

I've also been thinking about it, and I'm pretty sure I actually got one of those buttercake mushrooms from a Shroom Beetle my first time in Vvardenfell. I kept if for a bit because I thought it might be an ingredient for something (still pretty new to ESO at the time), but I ended up selling it because I just didn't have enough storage/bank space (hadn't earned enough gold to fully upgrade everything). This would have been XB-NA.

I was just happy to get one on my own.

I wish they would increase the drop rate on other rare items like the Triptyches. I’ve never seen one and would like to get it.

They did the same with the plan for the Khajiit Brazier, Enchanted.

For years it dropped from the N.Elsweyr prologue dailies (well, from the reward coffer anyway) only, and the drop rate was absolutely abysmal.

As in this was a multi-year endeavour on at least one character - often multiple - a day to get the first - and only - one to drop for me.

For years we said that this was asinine, for years we were ignored, then overnight and with not so much as a footnote on the patch notes they put in on all the loot tables that can drop these kind of plans, and as far as I can tell with no more or less rarity than any other comparable purple plan.

Great because this plan should have never been allowed to be that rare, it definitely was an outlier, but if for whatever reason you ignore us for so long those of us who did 'farm' for it with so unfavourable odds... well, it does generate some - in my opinion very much warranted - frustration.

I believe this is accurate and specifically for the Ald Velothi house. I had a friend buy the house, and I bought the little Hlaalu shed. I bet those mushrooms would be the same.

It's been over 7 months when i lastly got a missing item for my collection and i still miss those 2 plants in order to complete it. So im bringing this back up and really hope for someone to see this who may have gotten any of those without knowing their value for me.

Be aware that Inventory Insight doesnt show you all items tho. Or well, its supposed to but sometimes, idk why - probably after some addon update or something - it wont show you items placed in your homes if you havent visited them lately. The Addon Essential Housing Tours has a furniture feature, which does also capture items which are placed in houses very accurately. Inventory Insight often does not find the items in my houses im looking after.

I for one (as someone who builds and uses landscaping items a lot and detest being nickel-and-dimed crowns for useful ones) am very unhappy about this; I don't feel that it's "rewarding" and don't want to pay $5 (or 50 million gold+) to use 10 mushrooms or whatever. I think there's very few players (maybe including Elder and a few other collectors?) that might be happy?

P.S. Sorry Elder, I don't have these on EU but will keep in mind if that magically happens

(I build on NA and mostly sell on EU for getting around the PTS-EU-copy problem somewhat)

I use an addon called DecoTracker or something similar to keep track of where all of my furnishings are and it seems to work pretty well. You type /deco curtain for example and it lists every urnishing you have with the word curtain in its name and where it is located.
