I would not be surprised if by the next time the Crime Wave event rolls around, it's a lot more forgiving. I also don't blame anyone writing it off after what looks like another awful preliminary experience that seems hell-bent on wasting everyone's time.

Yeah, but I’ve watched MYTHIC QUEST so surely this would have been play tested before release…

Soooooo, it seems you can do the Dark Brotherhood quest "Marked for death" over and over and over... and get Ill gotten rewards.
    Is this not considered repeatable?

came here to say this because someone pointed it out to me in zone. i did two of them back to back, got junk and decided it's not worth the time with my sub ending on the 8th and i still have a little content to get through before i lose access to it. could have sworn i read somewhere from zos that these instantly repeatable quests would NOT give the bags, otherwise i probably would have been doing them on day one. i'm assuming the instantly repeatable thieves guild quest probably also gives the bag, but the drop rate is still going to be just as bad.

not sure why they are punishing players like this. i'll add it to the growing list of reasons of why i dropped my sub. if they didn't want ppl to profit off of the furnishings, they could have upped the drop rate to something like the jubilee bags and made them bound. or maybe they do want ppl to be able to profit on them because this is going to make them so expensive the ppl who want them are going to have to pay an arm and a leg for them

Only started the event today as was getting my house with the Golden Pursuits first. I've spent most of the day doing the marked for death quests. Finally got my thief/assassin to max level in the Dark Brotherhood skill line. Also used all the daily fence interactions to work may way through some of the zones make money from fences achievements (I have been lazy about doing those since I have a house with direct access to a refuge and tend to go there).

Finally done for the day since I can't sell any more ill-gotten gains. My bounty which was at zero is now at just over 40,000. Apparently she is too good at killing undetected and many of her kills weren't witnessed (even when someone was standing right by the victim) so she was literally getting away with murder with no bounty being added.

So, as you can guess, I have opened a lot of pouches. Only found two or three outside of the quest rewards as the drop rate for them isn't great in the first place, and the furnishings drop rate for the pouches is even worse.

I got 1 of the XP items (which will be used by an alt) and 2 of the single gold coins. That was it for the new stuff. I did get a few other furnishings, a tapestry I already had that isn't one of my favourites but I can at least use, and the skooma bubbler which was the best item of the bunch.

The gold from selling stolen goods is nice, especially since my thief has the various skills/passives active to get the most out of those, and I am enjoying ticking off some of the achievements, but the loot from the pouches it is definitely not worth it.

I was too busy with work and Oblivion to engage with the event until the weekend. I talked to guildies about the results they were seeing from the event, and decided it wasn't worth my valuable time to bother.

It seems like anytime they introduce a grindy Event &/or a new grind into an existing Event, the first round is miserly and awful with terrible RNG. Example: the drop rates for the iconic Replica Style Pages introduced during last year's Jubilee event. They were bound, couldn't be bought for tickets last year, and the drop rates were downright punishing.
But by the time those pages were available again this year during the Pan-Tamriel event, they could be bought for tickets and the drop rates were SIGNIFICANTLY increased.

That's a pattern that also caught my eye, which is the season I don't really farm right now. I might pickpocket a bit if I run past some lone npc while on my way to doing something else, but that's it.

So far I got 3 bags, never more than 1 per day, all of them rather shortly after logging in, and except for 1 blue edict and one of these new documents that grant you a bit of xp for the criminal skill line (what ever it's called in English), it was only clutter to sell, and not even something expensive.

Well, so much for my intention to pick up where I left off yesterday to try to raise my bounty some more in the hope of better loot. Bank Holiday Monday and maintenance again. I strongly suspect that by the time maintenance is over my bounty will have cleared and I will be back to square one with no time to build it up again to yesterday's level and no time to play tomorrow since I am back at work again and the event will be over by the time I log on in the evening.

bounty shouldn't take long. the bounty bonus caps out at 1500. not much time left to get things from it the way they did the drops though. absolutely deplorable... you might have better luck doing the dark brotherhood contracts with elam that are instantly repeatable. they give a box every time. of course it has the same horrible drop rates as boxes obtained any other way

I have only been pickpocketing during this event ( and using BOW ) in certain locations like the elden root throne room ( highly dangerous with maxed pickpocketing odds ) and certain summerset locations with nobles.

my bounty = 100,000 atm. and at maxed champion points for pickpocket rewards.

Things I have found in about 3 days:

    Wood elf throne blueprint x2
    Monk outfit x4
    Single Coin stolen furnishing x1
Ill Gotten Gains Box x31 - 46 ( Contents: Purple Treasure, Monk Outfit, Single Coin, Blue Treasure, Leniency and Counterfeit Edicts, Infinite Green and White "Treasure". )
    Purple Treasure item roughly x9
    Blue Treasure x55 - 75
    Infinity Green and White Treasure
    Stolen Lockpicks x<10

Last day of the event I decided to farm other rare stolen items. Meh.
insanely rare drop + unknown increase in drop rare = sigh

Over all, I would like to say that this event DID NOT instill joy. It was over grindy, drops were non existent for the most part. People in my 5 guilds did not take part.
The ones that walk away from this happy would be the grinders like myself that then turn and sell said rare items for bank. The grinders like me that want to collect, are left in the dark.

Not fun... Much like the Murkmire Event.

    Again... Not fun.

    Crimewave mini-event: review

    What was good:
    - increase limited of items at fence
    - Increased gold for selling items at fence
    - Guaranteed ill gotten gain bag for completing each “marked for death” quest
    - New “tips for legerdemain” tradeable scroll

What was bad (MUST be improved for next time):
    - drop rate of ill gotten gains bags from safe boxes & pickpocketing (suggest increase to 1/4 chance)
    - lack of ‘new thieving’ furnishings from ill gotten gains bag (suggest change to guaranteed drop or 1/2 chance)
    - occasionally npcs respawning as empty pockets

…there was such a hype about the new furnishings, which quickly turned to despair and disgust on the unbelievably poor drop rate. A good indicator is always the main GTs and listing prices….id expect by day2 to see the crime notices and coin furnishings to start appearing. Sadly, no…I’ve only seen a single coin stack (posted for 5M!!!) over the entire 6 days, which tells me the drop rate of these furnishings is practically non-existent.

I got another bag yesterday, which, again, only contained clutter to sell.

........whereas I'm not participating in the Crime Pays event, one of my girls did "find" one of the pouches while fishing. The goodies inside were garbage (seriously, even for a new character on a new account, pretty underwhelming), and I can certainly understand why the bag was thrown into the water. :: shrugs :: .

I built out a thief character and got my bounty WAY up just for this event - and was truly excited to participate in this event. I even made a specialized build for it (Khajit nightblade with stage 4 vamp, Draeloc Brae and Night Mother's armor with the Shadow Queen's Cowl). When the event dropped, though, I was sorely disappointed. Not only was the fencing cap not actually increased 100% (it went from 140 to 190), the amount of extra gold was minuscule, and as people have noted here, the Pouch of Ill Gotten Goods had a horrible drop rate - and when you got them, all they usually contained was additional stolen loot - and not even high level stuff, usually just white or green items.

This thieving event is simply going to be a waste of everyone's time unless they make some improvements. My suggestions are:

    1. Remove the cap for fenced items completely while the event is active. This is the kind of Role play event that I will only participate in with 1-2 characters at most, so raising the cap by 50 and calling it a "100%" increase is misleading and nonsensical.

    2. Increase the amount of gold you get from fenced goods by 100%

    3. Increase the drop chances of the pouch of ill gotten goods by a lot.

    4. Increase the chances that the pouches will have good items in it. How much this needs to be increased will depend on how often the pouches drop. The more often they drop, the less often they need to cough up a good loot item.

    5. Give us better information re: how X amount of bounty (lets say 1000 in bounty) will increase your drop chances for the pouches. We should know this so we can figure out if it is worthwhile to prime our characters by getting immense bounties.

    6. How about increasing drop chances of those counterfeit pardons?

If they did this, I would literally focus farm this event and have a great time doing it. While it was fun to get a little bit of extra for pickpocketing and murdering NPC's during the event, overall, I didn't find it worthwhile to try to farm. It's definitely a fun concept, but it also needs a lot of work.

Got myself a sizeable bounty and plenty of heat and started engaging with the event

Bags weren't particularly forthcoming and the drop rate for the 'event furnishings' was laughably inadequate.

Proceeded to apply the lesson I learned in the 2024 anniversary jubilee and dialed the engagement right back. Replaced my usual dailies to burn through enlightenment with TG/DB dailies and that was that.

I mean, it does keep people busy. Also it generates stats that might, without context, look like a success: "The people spent so many hours with this event!"

It probably won't change until players just don't participate anymore.

I agree, mostly because I had travel this past week and I worked on as many Golden Pursuits as I could before I left. I know I had more time to do those than the thieving activities, but it was a higher priority for me because I really wanted the house. I didn’t do any thieving activities because of that. I realize the drop rate was excruciatingly low for good stuff, but I might have gotten one or two good things in the sea of mediocre rewards,
