i'm tired of being a damn pestilent outlander, outsider, stranger, idiot, everywhere i go. time to stop being cheap and cop out in dialogues.

I'm a Dunmer, my kin should love me, BuT VnvANDERLF DunMER aRHRE RACiSTHS ToWARads nnoN Vnaanderfle DUnmer.

well duh, motherland dunmer are also racist towards other motherland dunmer, specially your character even if it's also a Dunmer.

Being treated like an outsider everywhere, by everyone, bothers me too, but the problem with adding this retroactively is it's very likely to clash with the backgrounds players have already invented for their characters.

My dunmer is an outsider anywhere in Morrowind, because he's been living in Summerset all his life. (And yes the altmer would consider him an outsider too.)

My khajiit was born in the Tenmar forest but she left Elseweyr when the Dominion showed up and has been living in Highrock for most of her life.

My bosmer was exiled from his village for an unspecified incident involving breaking the Green Pact, decided to leave Valenwood entirely, fell in with some necromancers, was turned into a vampire on his way across Elseweyr and eventually settled in Morrowind as an assassin.

About the only one which might be an option is my breton who ran away from home in Daggerfall and was trained by the Wyresses before becoming a warden, but even then I'd probably have to take out the part where she stayed with several Wyrds and some Reach clans, leading into the events of the Greymoor tutorial.

Of course I could rewrite all their backstories to suit the few options ZOS would give...but I'd rather not. Especially since they already can have characters recognise your race, alliance and things like if you joined the Dark Brotherhood and they almost never do.

For me, it wouldn't clash at all. I've spent 9 years ignoring all npcs' comments which doesn't fit the intended background now, I'd love to have an option to finally have it officially recognized in the game (and when it comes to Dunmer, I'd also find it reasonable to be able to give a character a House background - or none, as in having been born abroad, or being an Ashlander). In general, there should be an option for characters being born abroad, so people who want that background can have that too.

Not to mention that it’s not necessarily inherent that someone looking at you will know where you’re from. How would a Dunmer look at another Dunmer and instantly know they’re from Vvardenfell? It should be a dialogue choice IMO. That way, people from weird places (or just flat out liars) still get covered.

It's not really covered in the game, but in real life, there would be lots of things that may be hints: Dialects, different regional words, habits, in former times even clothing.

I'd be fine with dialogue options, though. Everything really, as long as the game doesn't define a single background for our character, no matter which one.

I pass by NPC's and they yell out "champion of blah blah blah"

I always hear it in Magni's voice. CHAMPYON! THE WOONZ!

Would be great for sure, but I don't really see that kind of thing happening sooner or even later - mostly because it would be quite a lot of work I think, for little effects ( and most likely little appreciation ).

But then, seeing the changes for dialogue choices, who knows ?
