Class Sets - What's the point anymore? (Subclassing)

I can be a Nightblade since birth and wear Umbral Edge despite running Ardent Flame and Earthen Heart skill lines as Subclasses. Why should I, though? The class you select on character creation now has very little relevance beyond being locked into just one(1) skill line. I appreciated the concept of Class Sets in ESO immensely, as it gave some extra flavor and (sometimes) power to the class you chose! Now, with the decision of implementing the Subclass System which devalues class identity in place of chasing min/max efficiency for the hardcore players or cosmetic purposes for the casual audience, why even restrict sets to class anymore?

Class identity is over. You can no longer see lightning on a player and assume they are a Sorcerer. How about we unlock those class sets, eh? The only class that was truly enjoying the IA sets was basically Dragonknight anyways with Pyrebrand which needed to be nerfed due to how fun it was. Guess Dragonknights will just have to live with the sustain nerfs due to Subclassing and having nerfed Pyrebrand as the consolation prize? Since classes no longer have identity we should be able to equip them if we have a Skill Line attributed to them. If not, then unlock them. Post-subclassing, these sets will struggle further to keep up with the usual outlier sets anyways. Its sad to see remnants of effort to flesh out class identity just sort of sit pointlessly.

On the bright side, maybe now we should be allowed the Class Set cosmetic motif styles on all characters?

I hope they allow the motifs at least. It makes no sense in a game where you can go into battle in a wedding dress.

I see a lot of talk in other thread of pure classing maybe for feedback and to allow pure classes ability to compete with sub classing lets get a class set tht empowers your class based on number of ur class lines u keep.

    Example:
Ur offensive attributes crit chance pen and damage are boosted by 50% 75% and 100% based on number of skill lines from your base class.

Or perhaps add a 4th class locked/unchageable skill line with all passives all designed around boosting that specific classes toolkit and will only effect that classes skills and since being overpowered now doesn’t seem to be as worrisome to the devs anymore make these passives kinda op

We've got a lot of completely irrelevant sets in this game, presumably they'll just get tossed on the pile.

You won't be able to pick 2 DK lines as a non-DK.

As for the why, presumably these are coded to look for "IsDragonknight=True" or whatever, and redoing them to look for the relevant skill line instead is low on the priority list. Also, per this thread note that the class skill line Dawn's Wrath is not considered by the engine to be the same thing as the subclass skill line Dawn's Wrath, despite the one duplicating the other, so it's not as easy as swapping Wrathsun to "HasDawnsWrath=True," either.

This is sad, and they are relatively recent sets (especially the second iteration) that take a lot of grind to farm too.

They could retool them to boost the class kit to the same level subclassing could potentially do - if they don't nerf everything into grey sludge before release that is, is only week 1 - either in terms of 'raw power' or adding 'unique utility not found elsewhere' (depending on the set).

This way purists can continue on their lane without feeling like they are missing out (thus asking for nerfs so everyone can equally miss out).

    Seriously, just unlock them all.

You can trade off the skill line that it affects, so why not let someone who does take the line wear it anyway?

Also, I'm still salty about the fact that they specifically locked the styles in U41. They were unlocked in U40 before they released, and now there's literally no reason to keep them that way - the main argument against it was "but muh Class identity!"

No you can't do that because you cannot equip 2 of the same subclasses trees, only your original class trees.

E.g you can go Shadow (needed for Umbral) and Assassination + Earthen Heart or Shadow(NB) + Earthen Heart(DK) + Daedric Summoning(Sorc)

Personally I think you should be able to wear the class sets now anyway because you can be running the tree they correspond with, it seems like a really pointless thing to lock you out of them because you're somehow less pure than an original class.
