The worst one though is that guy in Mournhold hawking Necrom/Gold Road who appears on the EU server but not the NA one. On EU I just avoid that route to the Undaunted Enclave where he appears. Or just turn the sound off :p

    Well, it's a non-issue for most folks I'm sure.

It is an issue for new players who feel overwhelmed by them because they don't know which ones to ignore. They can't know. They're new.

Worst case I saw was recently. Made a new character and at the very beginning, in Auridon, the first city for AD and Vanus Galerion is shouting at me - "It's about time you got here!" I'm level...5 or so and I'm being HOUNDED to take a prologue quest for gawd knows what!

Sometimes the outcome is amusing. One guy I knew had an epiphany of sorts over the Murkmire gal. When she asked, "How would you like to do something useful?" My buddy considered this. He agreed with the quest giver and left ESO 🤣

No, he really did. But he was likely done with the game anyway.

She was the worst. At least they greatly reduced her line of sight so she's much easier to avoid now.

Personally I hate being reminded that ToT even exists let alone being pestered to play it.

My recommendation has always been to modify our quest log. Break it into two sections with the first section holding up to 25 and the second section holding up to 75 quests. The main section is designed for quests you intend to do in the reasonable future. The second section is where you stick quests that you may (or may not) do later. Grab quests as you encounter them and stick all the prologue/undesired ones in the 'maybe later' section of the quest log. Conveniently get rid of the quest giver hoards by accepting their quests.

I think it's the opposite. For new players and ultra-casual chapter players, it provides Bethesda-like immersion.

But for experienced players like me who have played since 2014 and don't do most quests on alts, it's mind-melting to hear the same dialog thousands of times.

It's part of the schism that has always existed in the game: the single player game experience vs the mmo experience.

I have a feeling that some of these will get addressed in the future, given their mentions of providing a more curated experience for new players whereby they are directed towards content that is appropriate for them rather than having dozens of prologue quests thrown at them all the time.

Of course, the trick will be how they end up actually dealing with it. Since it's all well and good to remove these quest givers so new players don't get confused. But there's the other side of people actually trying to move into chapter content whom would like to access the prologue quests to make the chapter content itself make sense.

I know there was a thread recently complaining about how accessing the DLC quest lines wasn't organic enough (Because the person simply missed the prologue quest associated with them and so ended up skipping it and getting the DLC quest from the collection menu instead)

This is made tricky due to the whole "Freeform content" thing, where unlike say, FFXIV where you HAVE to do the entire storyline in order for every character, ESO enables you to skip things and sequence break (A facet that I'm sure many people rather like. Not having to do every quest in the game on every character to simply participate in the newer content on a particular character)

I know they recently adjusted these NPCs - but Adelle Montagne and Bera Moorsmith are still quite intrusive.

Adelle pops up in too many spots, all over Tamriel. This doesn't feel immersive, it feels intrusive.

The latter should be place in the Fighter's Guild Hall. I've been doing skyshards and found them in the depths of Shadowfen for some reason. Or better yet, do away with them and give me an "urgent missive" kind of letter in my quest inventory.

They really could just remove the prologue questgivers entirely, IMO. I don't think there's a way to get them in-game, alongside other NPCs that are not chronologically relevant, and not have it be overwhelming. I've advocated for this before, but the prologues should be accessible from the Stories menu, just like Dungeons and Chapter DLCs stories. It'd be much cleaner.

The ideal, in my view, is the one for Greymoore where Lyris just hovers off to one side as you enter Riften from the south.

Bera Moorsmith always amused me because she's comically distraught. But I stopped doing Figher's Guild and Mage's Guild quest lines on later characters because they don't give you the skill line. They're there for immersion and Fighter's Guild will max out naturally. So I accept the first ones and then ignore them.

Some quest-givers will chase you around. These are usually for zone story quests. And welcome back!

As for Laramil there's an odd glitch with Necrom. More than any other chapter, characters talk over each other and repeat themselves as if on a loop. "Feel the currents of fate flow through you." Laramil's amulet protects us both." "I am an agent of the great eye. Call on me!"

The solution for me was simple. I turned off dialog in sound settings

I'm not bashing Necrom. I thought its art direction was OUTSTANDING! And the environments of Necrom, the city itself, and Apocrypha were the finest yet for just wandering around.

I actually went into my settings to turn on the ability to attack innocents but he was not killable :(

It reminded me of the case with the bard outside the Nix. He'd been the most often murdered NPC in the game - until he was made invulnerable, thus disappointing many a martial music critic.

I agree it's aiming at the illusion of Bethesda interactions for newer players, but I don't think it being split between single player and multiplayer is the issue. I think it really is just a result of experiencing what the quests are like (regardless of if there is multiplayer or closed instances in the quest) and then learning it's not worth the time to check in with those quest givers, even on mains rather than alts.
As a new player you really have no idea what you're gonna be in for. So there's curiosity, some excitement to check it out. As a veteran player, it's safe to assume the quest will yield you nothing new, nothing needed, and be tasked behind many a fetch quests or daedric apocalypses. You also learn there's no consequences in the game really. So hearing NPCs calling for help or telling me to go no further, I know there's no impact by ignoring them. They'll eternally call for help until I decide to pick up the quest, and there is no valid threat they are trying to warn me against. I go zoomie on my horsey right past them.

Story quests have always been one time only and could only be done once on a character. The quest givers stop bothering charcters once their quest was accepted or completed. This does not apply to other characters on an account and has nothing to do with account wide achievements.
