Hirelings and PTS Patch Notes v1.1.1

Directly from the patch notes of the PTS.
Crafting hireling mails no longer contain a loot box. Instead, they contain the random assortment of items which the box would have contained when you opened it. The items you receive in the mail are determined by the character for which the mail was intended.
As a result of this change, the issue where hireling containers were sometimes empty has also been fixed.

This change will fix so that if you for example have high level woodworking on your main and you transfer all woodworkers chest you gain from all your character to the main and open them there you will get wood that is equal to your crafting level, instead of the low level wood materials you would get on the other characters with no woodworking level.

However what I'm curious about is if they also lowered or removed the chance to get epic and legendary upgrade items for gear if you have not reached an appropriate level for the same profession. If anyone has been able to test that on PTR.

If I understand this correctly, the level of items in the mail is determined by character whose hireling sent this mail, and not by the one that opens it.
Meaning that if you have high lvl crafter and open all hireling mail with that char, you will not get items for crafter's lvl.

well I already stated that in my post, what i was wondering about is the legendary and epic crafting material that isn't affected by the crafter's level

Will this also mean we won't need to log in every 12 hours to collect our mat's ?

I apologize if I am missing something, but to me, you are saying quite the opposite. Hence my post.

"you will get wood that is equal to your crafting level". Who is this "your" in your post? The one whose hireling sent the email or the crafter that opened this email (took the attachment)?

I'm pretty sure your first post repeated what the op stated. He understands that the update will fix the hireling loot being calculated by the character that opens it. He wants to know if we'll still be able to get epic and legendary upgrade materials.

We can't know for sure, but as long as they didn't change the loot tables then yes, we will still get epic and legendary upgrade materials. However, since the loot will not be calculated by the main character who may have 2/3 or 3/3 hireling bonuses (which improve epic and legendary % drops) we will most likely end up with less of the more rare epic and legendary materials.

    This is great news. :)

I was starting to assume that the current Hireling System where you can have your main character with maxed out Crafting and Hireling Skills, open all the Hireling Chests to collect ridiculous amounts of Rare Crafting Materials, was actually intended to be like that by the Devs, but it looks like that it is indeed a bug.

Check this video to see how crazy Hireling System currently is:

Ive also noticed a significant shadow nerf to the frequency of upgrade materials you get from refining raw materials. I suspect prices to go up shortly after this patch goes live and lots of people get to VR10 to start crafting gear.

Im holding onto all of my materials until then.

There won't be any boxes to open. There will be "loose" mats. You have to open the mail you get on that character, so the mats will be based on the character with the hireling. And I do fear the quality/quantity of upgrade materials will be severely nerfed. But we will see when it the patch happens...

I remember seeing something about empty boxes. For me that only happened a few times with enchanting where I opened it and got nothing.

I think you can still leave the mails unread and open them with your main. But because the mats are generated at the moment you receive the mail notification, you still get the low level items from it.

Yep, I think this is correct.

So you'll get loose materials in the mail itself, calculated based on the hireling rank for the character (so if it's an alt with 1/3 in hireling, it will get loose mats based on the 1/3 rank hireling loot table).

But they will still be regular mails that you can leave the items on and take them with your main.

As to the OP, since it's based on the hireling rank, you won't get as many tempers without putting more ranks into the hireling skill on those alts (IMO, dunno for sure, but that sounds like how it works).
