Merry Christmas team!

Scrolling on social media last night and this morning, I'm seeing a lot of confused posts from kids, parents, grandparents etc who either gave or recieved copies of the game and once they got started, received a permanent ban message either during character selection or the tutorial.

Since it's Christmas I doubt you have teams of vindictive moderators waiting to pounce on teenagers booting up their games on a holiday, perhaps some anti-cheating software has malfunctioned? Or some copies of the game have bugs?

I mention it here because it doesn't seem that all or even the majority of these people are filing bug reports, and many of the people asking are not the ones playing the game.

Where are you seeing these reports?

I only ask as it might be I (and others in the community) could help - but a quick search on X and FB doesn’t show any such things

Oof. I was afraid of that. This has been going on for weeks now and new players have posted about it on Steam and Reddit. Many on Steam cited it as their reason for not coming back. Whereas on Reddit, many people sought help on how to get their loved ones account back. Most later reported their appeal was successful but how many weren't or didn't bother? We will never know.

There appears to be an issue with their anti cheat detection system triggering false bans. I remember reading one guy saying his daughter got hit with it while she was still in the character creator.

It's a bit scary to speak on this but new players can't post about this on the forums for themselves. So, I hope it's okay since I'm not going to name anyone or get into too much detail. Thank you for bringing this up.

If ZOS is going to use AI to ban people, then they need/must have a customer service representative available 24/7 365 days/year to deal with these issues. It's only fair.

Can’t see any mass or recent reports but I appreciate the web is a large place

I would suggest pointing people towards @BethesdaSupport on X if you do see them and I’m sure someone from ZOS can advise if there’s a more appropriate way

This is the official forum for ESO. This is where all ESO related information should be posted first.

None of the social media platforms are reliable sources of information on ANYTHING. A person is more likely to encounter misinformation and disinformation on social media. There is no such thing as peer reviewed social media. (peer reviewed in the science meaning)

These are not people who are likely to get on the forums imho, as it seems several don't actually play the game or have an account, but gifted the game to someone else for Christmas.

Bethesda does have an official support Twitter, alongside their website.

But Bethesda has nothing to do with ESO.

Bethesda handles their official Twitter support.

Wasn't aware of this, thanks for pointing this out.

Nevertheless it feels strange that ESO support is handled by a different company.

They are sister companies. They work together on the lore and TESO is considered canon to the single player games. In addition to being the company they consult about the stories they want to tell, Bethesda offers assistance with customer support. IDK else what else they do, if anything. But, I know Bethesda works with Zeni doing those two things.

@ZOS_Kevin any chance you can provide some commentary on this? This definitely needs investigating if there is a potential bug that is somehow auto-banning brand new accounts.

Bethesda Softworks is also the publisher of ESO, in addition to Bethesda Game Studios developing the single-player games and working with ZOS on the world of TES.

All three (Bethesda Softworks, BGS, and ZOS) are owned by ZeniMax Media.
