I know I'm crazy for asking, but...TES: Legends in ESO?

I love Tales of Tribute, but now that Legends is shutting down in January, is there a world in which ZOS could integrate Legends into ESO in some form? Not as a replacement for Tribute, but as another way to enjoy card games within the game. At this point, Legends is a mature and refined game with a good deal of content, and it would be a shame to simply let it die if there's a way to preserve it, especially if that happens within a game I love and play often.

Personally? I'm not now nor have I ever been a fan of that sort of game. Legends (from what little I know) wouldn't fit well in ESO due to the time frame situation.... though I admit there are various takes on that.

I'm just not interested in card games in an mmo. However, keep firmly in mind that with the "latest iteration" of ESO (as marginally explained in Matt's letter) I'm not.... very much interested in this game at all going forward.

In other words, my input is certainly.... "suspect".

Personally I would love this, as well as other games (not just card games, but general board games.)

I think it would have to be handled delicately, due to ESO Legends basically taking place in a time far beyond ESO, but I think it could be done.

I think any lore issues could be worked around. I understand why someone might not have an interest in this but I'm actually a fan of Tribute, and card games in general, and outside of a purely offline version which doesn't seem to be happening, I think ESO could be an excellent refuge for those who lost what they had in Legends.

Also, I know there are people in ESO who expected something more akin to Legends when Tribute came out, and it could satisfy those people as well.

All this being said, I understand why it's not likely to happen - time, effort, priorities, money, the fact that there's already another card game in ESO. I still wanted to raise the possibility because I think it's a good idea and I'd love to be able to play Legends, especially within the context of ESO.

I like ToT more than I expected to, but Legends is what I really wanted from the beginning.

Never played Legends, but having more cards games and games in general would be fun I think, and great for RP. Did an IC game of Tales about a week ago and it was super fun (my character just barely won lol). Being able to play other games would be really neat imo.

@ZOS_Kevin Maybe adding different playable board games and stuff could be one of those experimental things the devs consider adding in the future?

There are probably far too many logistical issues that would need to be worked out. Aside from any questions of intellectual property ownership-- I don't know if everything is "owned" by Bethesda or if the other two companies that were involved in the development would have to be paid royalties of some kind-- there is also the matter of users who had purchased content in the game (the various stories, cards/decks, etc.), as well as the issue of user accounts in general. For instance, would a user from Legends need to buy ESO if they didn't already have it, and link their Legends user account to ESO in some manner? Or if everyone had to simply start over from scratch, would that create an uproar from people who had spent a lot of money on it?

I don't think OP means connecting the ACTUAL Legends game to ESO, but rather making a copy of it so to speak within ESO. The matter of ownership might still be a problem, but there'd be no linking of of accounts or "starting over" because it wouldn't be the actual official Legends game being incorporated.

I don't know what the OP meant.

But people first asked for this back before Tales of Tribute was added to ESO, and I got the impression back then that they wanted the actual Legends game--not merely a Legends-like game-- to be incorporated into ESO.

Personally, I never spent a dime on Legends, since it was free to play, you could earn gold in the game, and then use that gold to buy the stories, puzzles, and card packs from the various decks. And while I did try Legends, and collected all of the stories and puzzles, I have never played those types of card games before and had a lot of trouble getting the hang of it.

But I'm sure some people did spend money on Legends, and some of them may have spent a lot of money, so those people might very well want to see some kind of way that the actual Legends game could be incorporated into ESO so they can still enjoy it, complete with all of the content they'd purchased.

And of course, the whole question of purchased content is now a mess any way, since they dropped the price of everything to a single gold coin, which means that if people could carry their Legends accounts over into ESO then they'd probably have to receive all of the purchasable content for free from the get-go.

I don't really care whether or not ZOS would transfer user data, whether it's fully-ported or adapted. Personally I'd assume that ZOS would want to put in a not-insignificant amount of work to adapt it to ESO, and that it would not come with any user data from the original. In other words, it would be a new game with pretty much the same rules as the standalone game had.

Monetization could either be great or very annoying, but it could certainly become monetizable through ESO Plus and/or the Crown Store in lots of different ways. ZOS does seem to be looking for new ways to bring in cash and TCGs can be quite addictive, though I'm not really the type to be snagged by gacha mechanics.

I personally would prefer it if it wasn't just ported over from Legends, but rather recreated, I feel that it would be able to be made to blend in better, and not everything that was in legends (from what little I played it) would necessarily make a good transition to ESO.

However, I do agree with a new game that has pretty much the same rules as the standalone, and I, for one, would love it if we could build our decks by finding cards 'in the wild' so to speak. (and for those who dislike such things, have a card vendor that would be able to sell the cards).

Since you could have multiple cards of the same person in a deck, it wouldn't be any issue with people finding multiple cards and they could always sell them on the guild traders (just would need to be watched and balanced to make sure that the cards aren't just clogging up the traders or are soon considered trash)

As long as they are cosmetic, I wouldn't mind some decks being behind crown store (for instance, with say a high elf deck. You could find cards by killing various humanoids in the Alderi Dominion territory and Summerset, or looting chests, desks and things like that, but you could also buy 'skins' for the deck through the crown store.) I would also love to have things like 'legends' tables where it would allow players to play Legends in their own home (along with being able to play ToT in their own homes)

I would also love to see other types of card games (if we do get tables that we can set up in our home to allow us to play games) including single player games (ie, games like solitaire, where I don't have to play an NPC or other player). Other types of games, including dice and board games would also be great.

Sometimes it is just nice to be able to stop adventuring and go do something else while still earning rewards or staying in game.

If it was unsuccessful, I do not see why Zenimax or MS would want to spend money integrating it into ESO. Also, we have a card game already.

Yeah, that's basically how I'd assume the card collecting/distribution and monetization would work for the game.

I always wished that Witcher 3 would have had Dice Poker from Witcher 2 alongside Gwent as an alternative and never really understood why they didn't do it. Dice Poker is fun, light and fast, while Gwent has more depth. Similarly I feel like could always put multiple smaller games in to give people some different relaxing distractions.
