Potentially Unintended Chat Message auto erasure affects Roleplaying

Hello, I will preface this by stating I am an avid roleplayer in the game and others who do not roleplay might not notice this.

Previously when typing a message in the chat box, we could click out of the box, pan around, and change our camera, before returning to our message to continue typing. This is something that is very useful for those of us whole roleplay. Things such as: a new character may enter, or there may be a change in the scene that we will have to pan out camera to be able to see. Or... another example is touring a character's house. We are moving while typing out our character's response.

Now as of this patch when someone starts to type a message in the chat box, and we click out of the chat box, the message is erased completely, which as you can imagine, is a very unexpected surprise.

I can see where this may have been intended, as if someone is typing a message, and then finds themself in combat, and is trying to press keys to react, but is stuck in the chat box typing instead, perhaps this would prevent that.

But I wanted to bring this up, to see if this was in fact intended or not.
I appreciate any response on the matter. Thank you!

Having the same issue at an RP event tonight. Multiple folks getting repeatedly tripped up by this new 'feature' with no way to resolve it. Sure, non roleplayers will look at this and think we're overreacting. It's comparable for the pve crowd of having your movement keys be disabled while a UI is opened, or, for the pvp crowd, kicking you from a battleground or cyrodiil que for mounting up. Small, yes, but aggressively frustrating to deal with

Hi all, looking to get some additional information as we are investigating this. Are you using mouse and keyboard, gamepad/controller, both?

Mouse/Keyboard here. Pretty sure Xim does, as well. (We're in the same guild.) The funny thing is, thanks to pchat addon, the chat doesn't purge while the UI is open, but does as soon as the UI is closed, like, an inventory page, or quest log as examples. That said, even disabling addons, it still happened. I'll check if it happens on my steamdeck after the rp event is done to see if it affects controller UI too

Same problem here. Also using a mouse and keyboard, and disabling addons didn't help.

The same thing happens while in gamepad mode and using the keyboard chat. Start typing a message then click the playable area with the mouse and the chat message gets erased.

    Edit:
I just tested with the gamepad chat and it's getting erased as well.

Having the same issues, erases both with and without addons, any menu or clicking out of the chat box causes it to happen.
Mouse and Keyboard but plugging in a controller had the same issue still happening.

I've got the same issue with mouse and keyboard, it is not only annoying in RP environment, but also in PvP when you prepare an "OPEN" message before the gate is open so you just have to press the button when the enemy pours in. Now you are losing seconds in which you could siege, just for typing to warn to others.

This is driving me [snip] lol. I do a lot of copy/pasting of info into guild chat, alt-tabbing in and out of the game and now I have to build out the entire message first instead of adding blocks.

Previous to this, there was another change where if you were typing in the chat box, then alt-tabbed to grab something to paste, it deselected the chat window. (you could click back in and continue, unlike now)

    [Edit for profanity.]

Yes! This is happening to me as well, glad you brought this up, Xim.

Just to add to this, the queue invite prompts seems to delete typed and unsent message for me as well.
