ESO positive overview: my opinion shift from "I quit" to "actually...it's good!"

While I will refer to other games I want to make clear this IS an ESO post first and foremost.
We all know the many issues ESO can have so I won't reiterate them.

I am an Xbox player with nerves issues.
Yesterday, after years my dream came true and a certain game finally came to Xbox. I was in the mood to "quit for a while" ESO and throw myself in that game.
I am 4-5 hours in and I am realizing how ESO is a "more mature" game compared to many others.

I understand many modern games want to keep the aesthetics and feel realistic and decide to avoid colored AoE telegraphs but... Everyone of us have had that moment where you think "I won't be hit here, I'm safe" and then find yourself screaming "WHYYYY, HOOOOOW", so the accessibility Zos provided with telegraph options is HUGE.

As I said I have nerves issues and I can't stop praising ESO's Oakensoul Ring and whoever is responsible for that item - total game changer! I am able to complete some of the most difficult content in the game solo thanks to it. Literally, if I take it off I am immediately dead.
I can't fast press many buttons and the simple act of smashing light attacks, which is THE BASE in any other game, is something that hurts me and make me stop playing.
Seriously, just this item is MASSIVE to me and my enjoyment.

Again, with my issue today I am not as good as I was in my teen years with aiming - "aim at tiny details on the enemy body to do crit damage", excuse me WHAT?
Thank you ESO for having the whole body to aim, to tab target, and for Lightning staves' sticky heavy attacks! In fact, I would hope that Ice and Fire staves would be made similar in the way they attack, instead of their single projectile, but I know it probably won't ever happen. Fair enough.

The amount of systems, like Sticker Book, Armory, Antiquities, Companions, Housing, Infinite Archive, Crafting (and how simple and fair this is, not pushing for pay-to-win or outrageous luck-mechanics)...
ESO feels like a more mature game compared to may others that while being newer and shiny feel in their infancy right now.

I can see why many worries about ESO's future, because games that today are new will eventually catch up, and while ESO today can be described as "more mature", it risks to end up like me "with health issues".
BUT, to remain positive, right now my attitude toward ESO has changed a bit - I was readying myself to quit and move on after many years, but trying other games has surprisingly helped me realize how much goodness there is in this game.

Despite its many flaws, ESO still is a great game.
Thank you Zos for the memories! Here's hoping to make many more in the years to come! Cheers.

    Hard agree.

I've been playing a number of other non-TES CRPGs lately, and while each has its strengths and weaknesses (as any game does), they really make me appreciate how good the TES games are.

And while I haven't tried any other MMORPGs yet, and so can't compare them to ESO, I love ESO a lot and play it many hours a day, every single day.

I'm so glad you're enjoying ESO and you raise numerous good points.

I heartily agree on Oakensoul. I tried it in desperation when one of the more heavy handed / ignore PTS feedback / nerf-laden updates had me ready to quit ESO. I fell in love again. Not so much for the heavy attacks as the freedom from micromanaging buffs. I haven't used a two bar build since. So my +12,000 hours in ESO continues for now.

    Thank you!

Oakensoul is A MUST for me - I use it in each and every build I come up with.
I have an "immortal" build for hard content but I have fun experimenting with more casual builds. You can even solo World Bosses with bare hands! It made the game so much more fun...!
Always good to see others enjoying it :) And always cool to see people with so many hours in the game maintaining passion!

This game was there for me when I was fighting Cancer, and it's been there for me since.

Love the game, play for hours every day. Still play Skyrim and Oblivion too. TES is my "home" gaming universe; doubt I'll ever really leave.

As long as ESO is fun, I'll be playing it. NB: my idea of fun probably doesn't fit ANYONE else.

I've been running oakensoul on my main for a few months. My two-bar build is stronger, but I'm so glad I no longer have to keep switching bars to re-apply buffs. Just a really tedious combat mechanic.

Having said that, I agree 100% with the OP. ESO has its faults, but it's a fantastic game that's kept me playing for years now. And believe me when I say that's quite an accomplishment for an MMO.

I have three games on my steam account. This, Morrowind... because it is the greatest game ever, and another that i played for about two weeks.

I run torc on most of my toons. It took three weekends to get it. For me, someone without a lot of time for grinding who wants to just hop on and jump into the action most weekends and weeknights, this is the best addition to the game by far. I love it. It's not op but not weak. Like oaken is now I think.
