Honest question about maintenance

Is there any particular reason there is not a set day for maintenance? Why is it one week we do it Tuesday, and then another we decide to do it on Monday etc...?

I understand having different days/times for different platforms, but each platform should have a set day/time for their maintenance so that players on those platforms can anticipate and know what to expect. I understand that hotfixes may be needed and are unavoidable unfortunately, but I do not believe todays maintenance is a hotfix so what gives? This week doesn't include a holiday either so I am really curious as to why ZOS is so free and lose with maintenance schedules. I feel like a lot of the complaining I see in the forums over the maintenance could be solved by them just adhering to a schedule. Maybe there is something I am missing because I have taken large breaks from the game since release, but I honestly looked forward to logging in this morning to get some dailies done only to see there is maintenance going on and will likely prevent me from getting that done today.

Anyway like I said its an honest question and maybe I missed some message and this is some kind of hotfix that needed to be done asap and couldn't wait till Tuesday which I thought was the "normal" day for maintenance, but again it just seems like its "usually" Tuesday, but just happens whenever which leads to a lot of frustration in the community in my opinion.

    They have several different maintenances.

    Normal maintenance
    Patch maintenance
    Major update maintenance
    Quarterly backend maintenance
And the hot fixes on top of that

Whether there is a pattern to all of that ... who knows?!

Modern games can do maintenance while the servers are live - imagine that! :D

But in all reality, totally agree. It should be a set day every week

Yeah, just seems weird to me because in all my experience with MMO's there is always one set day for maintenance again with the exception of hotfixes/emergency type things or if there is a holiday involved. I can't think of any other MMO I have ever played that has seemingly had a maintenance schedule that is "Well, what day this week should we do maintenance? Is Monday good for you? No, how about Thursday? Great!"

Just feels like so much of the complaints I see on the forums when I did a search to see if there was ever any official reason why maintenance days didn't seem set could be fixed by having a set day/time.

U44 was a monday. Today's incremental patch is on a monday. So possibly part of a pattern. When was the last non-content related maintenance?

Edit: Looking on the maintenance forum which is usually hotfixes and quarterly backend, the quarterly's have been on a Wedenesday.
